Member Since: July 2008 Posts: 18,042 Send Message	Bert - please read our replies above! Emily Anderson Popple married Samuel Barnard in December 1891. She then went on to marry Herbert William Sharpe in 1895. Obviously, her second marriage is going to be in her married name of Barnard.

Member Since: March 2007 Posts: 33 Send Message	Hi, The Sharpes are from Peterborough, and the marriage records show Deeping St James (about 10 miles North of Peterborough). I am going round the bend trying to understand the confusion. I've got a copy of the 1871 census, and she is shown as Emily A Popple, 27 Eastgate, Deeping St James. I can only assume that this is Emily Anderson Barnard, as all the info on her from The Family Search website refer to Frederick Popple. Bert

The only certain details I have are that she was my grandfather's (Herbert William Sharpe) 1st wife and she died in childbirth in 1898. He married Emily Clipston in 1906, which is the union I am descended from. I have found entries for Emily Barnard, but they are very confusing. All I have found point to her being the daughter of Frederick Popple of Deeping St James, if so why was she called Barnard ? Also the marriage of her and 2 siblings is shown as 26 December 1895 - very doubtful. The family of Frederick Popple are :- wife Mary (1837), children - Thomas (1861), Matilda (1863), Clara (1865), Emily (1869). Clara married my grandfather's brother, John Thomas Sharpe. I know it is a long shot but anything to sort out the confusion would be appreciated please. Herbert (Bert) Sharpe
