I'm not sure why you ruled Samuel and Jane out as "your" Mary Jane's parents? 1871:
BLASHILL, Samuel Master M 37 1834 Yorkshire BLASHILL, Jane Matron F 37 1834 Yorkshire BLASHILL, Richard Robert Son M 11 1860 Yorkshire BLASHILL, Mary Jane Daughter F 3 1868 Yorkshire BLASHILL, Frederick Son M 0 1871 Yorkshire
Registration District:Hull Civil Parish: Holy Trinity Municipal Borough: Kingston upon Hull
Address: Hull Workhouse, Holy Trinity, Kingston Upon Hull County: Yorkshire
(Haven't posted all the poor souls who were inmates)
mgnv has posted the 1881 already.

Hi Marie..thanks again..I have all the early stuff including the fact that GEORGE BASHILL..the real one!! lol was the son of Henry and Mary..as you show on 1851........trouble is that the George Bashill 1911 father of mary jane Slingsby nee Bashill..also has parents Henry and Mary..
Sending for the Birth Certs for Mary Jane Bashill will not clear the water..but i have downloaded the applications for the marriages of Mary Jane Bashill to both Slingsby and Gilchrist..which will show fathers and rtheir occupations......at a cost of £18.!!.........any bets they are both Registrars??????? A little bit of fantasy here...was George Blashill 1838 a bigamist!!......I thin I've lost it!! lol

Now, this is a submitted record so accuracy can't be vouched for:
Mary Jane Blashill Female Event(s): Birth: 17 JAN 1868 Christening: 25 FEB 1868 Kingston Upon Hull,East Riding, Yorkshire, England Death: 1951 Burial: Penetanguishene, Simco, Ontario Other Event(s): Census: 1881 Sutton &, Stoneferry, Yorkshire, England Marriages: Spouse: William Gilchrist Marriage: 06 MAY 1899 Hull,East Riding, , Yorkshire, England Messages: Record submitted after 1991 by a member of the LDS Church. No additional information is available. Ancestral File may list the same family and the submitter.
IF this is right then it confirms it was Mary Jane, daughter of Samuel and Jane who married William Gilchrist.

Derek, Mary Jane baptised 25 Feb 1868 was NOT the daughter of George and Catherine as you stated above:
MARY JANE BLASHILL Female Event(s): Birth: Christening: 25 FEB 1868 Holy Trinity, Kingston Upon Hull, Yorkshire, England Death: Burial: Parents: Father: SAMUEL BLASHILL Mother: JANE Messages: Extracted birth or christening record for the locality listed in the record. The source records are usually arranged chronologically by the birth or christening date. (From Family Search)
Now, don't tell me they both got baptised on the same day!!!

Derek, what certificates do you have?
If you've got William Gilchrist's marriage certificate can you give us ALL of the information on it, e.g. occupations, addresses, witnesses.
To be honest, the only way to unravel this tangled web would be to buy both Mary Jane's birth and marriage certificates and cross match everything. But, that's 37 quid and Christmas is near ......

Margee.........Mary Jane Blashill born 17.01.1868 baptised 25.02.1868..daughter of George and Catherine..married William Gilchrist 06.05.1899............definitely the correct one...all the way through to Canada census 1911...........
Samuel Blashill was a Workhouse Master...married to Jane....so he's out
George Blashill who married a sarah..was a Greengrocer..also father of mary J Blashill
In 1891 George 1838 of Sutton Yorkshire married to catherine..parents of "my" Mary Jane..............is a Registrar..
1911 George Blashill widower 1838 Sutton..father of Mary Jane Blashill wife of Slingsby is a RETIRED Registrar.......
It's crazy......
Derek.

Thanks Margee..I can't either,,but its nice to know the date......soeone kindly sent me the 1911 Canada census for both William and Roland...
I'm getting really paranoid about Mary Jane Blashill born 1868....daughter of Samuel and Jane..daughter of George and Sarah..daughter of George and Catherine. In 1911 when we know she is in Canada...."another" Mary Jane Blashill is married to Thomas Alfred Slingsby....both have a father George..both George's born the same time have the same occupation..Registrar's of Births and Death...what is going on!!! lol.

HELP Marie.....just found a glitch to our reasoning.....Geroge Blashill is in 1871.."Recording officer"married to Catherine father of \mary Jane... George..husband of Catherine is in 1901.."Registrar of births and deaths.....and of course Mary jane is not there cos she is married to William....BUT in 1911....George Blashill..."Retired registrar of Births and Deaths" is shown as father of Mary Jane Blashill who married Alfred Slingsby!!!!!!.........strange co-incidences..particularly as Mary jane was with her husband William in Canada by 1911!!.......
