Can the 1911 Census be searched by address??

If so can someone have a look at 60 and 61 Sceptre Street, Bethnal Green, Middlesex as my husbands aunt believe's that someone in the family owned that house and many relatives lived in it over the years. Unfortunately she doesn't know whether it was her mother's or father's side of the family that the house belonged to.

Thank you for all your help. I will order the John Boswell birth certificate, if it's not mine I am sure I will find a home for it on Certificate Exchange.

Where on the birth cert does the name Whitley appear? I think it might be a good idea to contact the Mile End Registrar's office and ask them to check - it is possible that the original entry was omitted from the GRO index.

Mile End registers are now held at Tower Hamlets:

All this ties together quite well but I still have this name WHITLEY and a known sister that cannot be found under any of the names.

I just called my husband's only living relative -an aunt and she looked at the sister's memorial card and it just names her as GINNY. The aunt is going to have another look through the paperwork she has to see if she can find a real name for her.

I just searched all the SMITH WHITLEY marriages just in case Rosetta had been previously married but nothing.

The Boswell/Smith marriage looks correct. Occupation of groom - carman, father deceased. The witnesses were what looks like Huggins. Her father Richard Smith

Just looked at the BOSWELL SMITH births in Bethnal Green and around can only see two males on FreeBMD.

John 1915 March

Charles J 1915 December

No Lily or any other's that would of been the sister.

I saw that marriage and dismissed it because of the different maiden name but as someone else said she could of been married before.

Oooh Barbara that looks promising as that gives the same occupation as when daughter married.

Yes that is the birth certificate I have and that states date of birth 13th March 1919 Mother MRS BOSWELL informant Jack Boswell.

I also have the original little one that was given out and that states born 19th February 1919 registered 27th February 1919. Mile End Old Town.

Edited>>> Same entry and page number.

Kim

Kim Report 7 Dec 2011 15:39

I have been searching for both John and Jack but I don't know how old he was when Lily was born or when and where he was born,

There is a birth for a Jack Boswell 1892 Sept Qu, Bethnal Green

There is also one for John Henry Boswell 1892 Sept Qu, Bethnal Green.

Kim

Kim Report 7 Dec 2011 15:37

It came from the GRO and was queried with them too. I assumed at first they had read the wrong lines, sort of cross referenced.

Mile End Old Town registry no longer exists so could not check with them.

My mistake it states MRS BOSWELL not Mrs Whitley, there is no previously .... and the informant was Jack Boswell (father).

Mike * Report 7 Dec 2011 15:37

If mother is recorded as Mrs Whitley then she won't be Mr Boswell's wife.
