Rose, I don't think it was really emigration as such, more he had a military posting there and so the family went with him and returned together when he was discharged.

If you look at the 1904 arrival in England from the US that I posted previously they had all 5 children with them, so I don't think there was one left behind in Canada. Now, all of the children are with their aunt in England on the 1901 census. Perhaps they were unable to travel OUT to Canada with their parents, because of illness and then followed over later?

we had heard they emigrated to canada so it was Halifax Nova Scotia, there is also rumour that thay left at least one of the boys behind because he was ill at the time and he stayed with an aunt? not sure how true this is , i am waiting for an uncle to send me something he has on this but i dont think it has much info on there and they never seem to want to say much about it .

Right, have read through all 48 pages and I'm not going to attempt to reproduce them here!

George snr first enlisted 10/12/1886. He names his parents as Henry and Mrs Ecclestone. Has a brother Harry, and two sisters - Emma and Maria.

He married his first wife, Lizzie James, 07/11/1892 somewhere that looks like Bordesley.

He married his second wife Clara Agnes Lucas 30/06/1899 in Tipperary.

It also lists all the children's births and baptisms.

He stated he had previously been in R Garr Rgt.

His home address was 4 High Street, Farnborough, he had 5 children and his wife was Clara Agnes - so that clears up the confusion about the variation in wife's name on 1911 and the shipping list.

EDIT: There is also another service record for him, there are 48 pages so a lot to plough through! So far, I've noticed it mentions Halifax, NS in 1901 so that could tie in with the family going over there.

Unfortunately Ancestry only has that Medal Roll and no corresponding pension or service record.

I don't know a lot about military births so I'm not sure if they were registered elsewhere, someone else can no doubt advise.

When you say you can't find George John's death do you mean junior or senior, or both? If you have any knowledge of when and where they might have died then we'll have a dig.

On your father's birth certificate, who is his mother? That might help us tie some records down. (She couldn't have been married to both brothers, could she? - that could be one explanation as to how the half brothers and sisters have fathers with those names.)

That is odd, as George John b1897 and Frederick George b1895 are brothers? For whatever reason, their father George John snr switched between his birth surname and his mother's second married name and the children just seem to have been called whatever he was at the time.

their Parents were George John Jessop and Clara Agnes Lucas, this is a very confusing familly what with name changes etc, as yet to find out whay they kept changing from one to the other, tho i have a millitary birth cert for George John b.1897 i cant find any record of his birth or death anywhere else.

Following on from the marriage that Shirley and Penny posted for Maria Danagher (who is the daughter of Eliza Moody/Jessop/Ecclestone and thus the aunt of the two chaps Rose is enquiring about) it looks like she married James Porterfield as James George Forder is with his wife Alice (who would be Alice Rose Hornsby on the marriage record) on the 1911.

However, can't find Maria Porterfield on 1911.

It would be appreciated if Rose would come back and give us some feedback/further input.

The last child was born in 1899 and they returned to England in 1904 so it's a small timescale. It all depends whether they travelled as Jessop or Ecclestone but I can't locate them as either!

Have searched and searched on FMP for outgoings in names of Ecclestone AND Jessop, and am ploughing through the US arrivals.

The children were on the 1901 so perhaps they were sent over later?

He must have gone to the USA before the 1901. I can't find him travelling out on FMP have you had any luck? And why is Agnes suddenly Clara?
