His wife Jemima remarries in 1903 as a widow.

Now although on the census his occupation doesn't fit as he is not an Engineer. By the time his son from that marriage is baptised he is an Engineer!

the surname Micklewright was on the baptism record of one of Emma Georgina Sheffield/Carash's children, it said 'Micklewright Carash' for father

also ... she had children who were born as Micklewright and died very young as Carash

I was one who thought his surname was really Micklewright and there was fudging going on because the parents were not married

the Mr Micklewright that rootgather has found fits that profile perfectly

... he was married to someone else so he had children with Emma Georgina but was not married to her

... on his Canadian baptism record his brother George's name shows ( at least as it is transcribed at familysearch ) as MECKLEWRIGHT with mother CARRASH

it seems certain Henry is the father of Emma Georgina Sheffield's children

the birth registrations at that site only go from 1864 to 1877 so Harry's birth is not covered in that range

the record for Frederick is an application for late registration made by his wife Elizabeth Micklewright in 1939 in New Jersey United States ... it says his date of birth was 11 July 1864 and it gave a leaf from the family bible of Thomas Micklewright showing the birth of Frederick William Micklewright as the fourth child of Thomas and Mary Jane Micklewright ... and it gives the mother's name as Mary Jane CURASH

( you saw ... the baptism record from familysearch gives it as CARRASH )

Frederick Micklewright born 11 July 1863 died in Halifax Nova Scotia in 1958 at age 94

Frederick Micklewright is the brother of George Micklewright

Henry Micklewright brother of George and Frederick is the father of Ruby Carash

Brother Frederick returned to Canada or perhaps to the United States since that is where his wife was when she applied to register his birth in Nova Scotia in 1939 ... probably because he needed to prove his age in order to get a pension

Thank you Maureen. I do think that it has all been great teamwork.

I have to say that it the last few minutes I think I may have found a reason for us being unable to find a Gordon / Carash marriage. I have copied what I have found but to avoid information overload for Lucy just now, I'll wait for the details from Ruby Gordon's birth certificate that Lucy has ordered. I do think that I have perhaps found an Aberdeenshire connection for Ruby's family - no great surprise really with a surname like Gordon.

I have mostly enjoyed working on this family although sometimes they have proved difficult to find. Still some loose ends though regarding Henry Thomas Micklewright. I am now thinking that he wasn't dead when Jemima remarried - he had just shot the craw and Jemima had him declared dead after their years of separation. As Emma never married him she was free to marry Mr. Garner anyway in 1906 although she stated that she was widowed.

I know he married Elizabeth who was born in Holloway London in 1869. If this is the same person I have located 2 children Sidney G Born 1896 in Brixton and Eva M 1899 in Northfleet Kent.
