Just before I retire for the night, Daniel Whayman was born in Grundisburgh, Suffolk in 1834. He died in Umballa, Bengal, India on 6.9.1874. There was another Daniel Whayman who also served in the British army many years later. He was Daniel Bedingfield Whayman, a relation of the first Daniel.

Judith.......You may certainly be on to something and I will try to prove you correct.....hopefully. Thanks again x
WayneTracey (tracey I presume and forgive me if that is not correct) Thank you for all you have done.
It is almost 10.40pm Sun day evening here in Australia and unfortuneately I hade to get up early. I so wish I could stay on-line and explore further but ufortunately bed calls. May I PM you another day? You have been so patient and I do really appreciate everything you have done thus far. I look forward to receiving the marriage certicate and military papers. Oh and if I may ask one last thing, my GGG grandfather on the other side of my family served in the army and I know he served in India and died in India on 6.9.1874. His name was Daniel Whayman. If you could perhaps please find his papers also and send them to me I would really be eternally grateful!
Good night

From the military paperwork it does seem indeed it is right that Henry Leakey (Alice's brother) was born in Canada, his father James served 2 1/2 years there!
He also it appears served in the Crimea for 9 months.

In modern day London they are about 7 miles apart. Striclty speaking in 1863 I think Limehouse would have been covered by Stepney. But there certainly isn't a birth that matches Stepney.
I don't have subscription to Ancestry at the mo, but this Harry (I think) is with mother Ann - no mention of father again as far as I can see in 1871.
There are plenty of deaths matching John Clark being deceased by 1871

My grandmother, god rest her soul, was also known by her middle name!!!! Oh it makes things so hard!
Could you please answer a question about your research skills? I am absolutely blown out of the water by the detail you have on Alice Louisa Leakey, what date she was born and where etc. Can I also find that info somewhere???
I seem to spend a HUGE amount of time just sourcing snippets of info and you do it all in the blink of an eye. You are amazing!

Hi Judith.......thanks for helping!
Because I'm from Australia and have no clue as to the layout of London. Is Marylebone near Limehouse? In each census, I have Harry born in East London (1891) London (1901) and London Limehouse (1911) and in each he is born in 1863.
I am not saying it isn't him though. Will definately keep this in mind....
Thanks heaps again

No I haven't looked in the witnesses on Harry's marriage certificate.
The witnesses were James Leakey (presumably Alice his wife's father...same name) and Florence Eliza ....looks like Cook(e).
I will try to look further into Florence!!!!!

Births Mar 1863 (>99%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CLARK Harry Marylebone 1a 474
Could this be the birth?
Think this Harry is in 1881 in Marylebone with widowed mother Ann (a needlewoman born in 1827)

Ok another question for you...
How far have you drilled into Harry's marriage cert?
By that i mean do you kow the witness's... have you found them on the census?
Could they be relatives? Cousin's....or just family friend's? Sometimes the devil is in the detail.
