Dea..I shouldn't bother too much about William's age....Censuses were notoriously inaccurate in that respect...........there's a lot of work being done here....some feedback from peter would be useful!! Trouble with your version of the 1861..shouldn't Joseph 1854 be on it??

Yes Derek but I am wondering if the 'William' on there is actually 'Joseph' ??? - the age is about right and we know that the real William is much older' - I think the names may have been mixed up somehow??

If he was marid in the 1871 census the Elizabeth in the 1881 census must beElizabeth Chapman marid 1863 and not Elizabeth Ranes as that marriage was 1877. Or could it still Elizabeth Davidson and she was also visiting in the 1861 census.What are your thoughts on this.

Robert states widowed in 1861, married with no wife showing in 1871, and married with wife showing in 1881.
Therefore wife would appear to be Elizabeth Chapman. Certificate would confirm.

yes that is what thought but ihad it from another sorce that it was Elizabeth Ranes marid to robert so i think you are right i will send for certificate.

next possible marriage to Hannah Jones 15 Feb 1863 not Elizabeth Chapman as first thought dont know when Hannah possible death Dec 1871 aged 52yrs
next marriage Elizabeth Ranes 15 Oct 1877.

From above posts Robert is married on 1871 census but on his own where is Hannah??.

I'll check all the marriages when I'm next in the archives but unable to check census so can some one look for a poss Hannah please.
