Find Ancestors

Hi All,
This is my first post on this forum, hope someone can help.

I am trying to find the father of Kay (male) Royle born in Radcliffe, Lancashire. The first record I have of him is aged 9 in the 1861 living with his Uncle, also called Kay Royle (born 1831) and his wife Pricilla. Then in the the 1871 census, aged 19 still staying with his uncle Kay.

I cannot find any record of a father. His Uncle Kay had a brother Arthur born 1846 but non of his children were named Kay.

Can anyone help me find Kay Royle, my ancestors, father.

All help will be gratefully received.

The Lancashire bmd site www.lancashirebmd.org.uk shows his mother's maiden name as Rimmer.
The same site's marriage records show the marriage of Robert Royle to Hannah Rimmer in 1847, at St, Mary's, Prestwich.

I see he named his first son Robert........after his Father??...and Daughter after his Aunt.

There are four more Royle children with MMN Rimmer, born 1848 - 1856.....so four possible siblings for Kay.

Thank you all. I am a bit confused, sorry it's because there are 2 Kay Royle's.

So Kay Royle 1852 parents were Robert and Hannah
Would that make Kay Royle 1831 Robert's brother?

From his m.cert, Uncle Kay's dad was William - note one witness (Ra Crompton) was more or less a professional witness, since he seems to witness just about every marr.

Well...........yes Marie, it would seem so.
Having said that, Robert does not appear in the 1851 census with his parents William and Alice and siblings.......Kay, Alfred and Sarah!

Hmmm!! will check on here tomorrow. :-S

Ah, Prickly you have explained it. Robert and Uncle Ky's father was William!!

Robert's dad was also William

EDIT Robert & Hannah were both minors (under 21) - Hannah lists no dad - Robert was a weaver and Wm a laborer

The absence of a father's name for Hannah probably implies that she was illegimate

I suggest that Alice is Wiliam's 2nd wife .... there is a huge difference in age between Kay and the 2 younger children.

Remember that ages of people over the age of 15 are supposed to be roudned down to the enarest 5 on the 1841 Census .................. so William for example could be any age between 40 and 44.


I have sent in a name change for Kay

It does say Ryle on the image ........ but there seems to be a whole family of them living next doors to one another. Including possible older lady relation Sally.
