well leos eldest brother was born in 1922,so his mum and dad Mgt. Mary Aughney and John Curran must have married before that.

Leos' 2 brothers married 2 sisters and their first cousin m. their sister.

my sister-in-law was baptised Catherine but known as Kathleen.

only Michael Aughney i know of who was married to a Catherine, was the one b.1859!

don't know Catherines' maiden name yet,but am awaiting birth cert for their dau.Catherine,so should find out when i get it.

i have written down 3 pages of Curran baptisms, from diff. parishes round and about Boherduff/Newtown/Dunleckny.areas...will now sit and search through to see can i find parents for Kathleen(Catherine?)Curran.

thnx for the info Chrissiex..i really do appreciate it.

familysearch has only one possible connection but it doesn't look very close

name: Elizabeth Aughey
gender: Female
birth date: 12 Mar 1879
birthplace: Antrim, Ireland
father's name: Robert Aughey
> mother's name: Isabella Curran Aughey
indexing project (batch) number: C01004-6
system origin: Ireland-EASy
source film number: 256020

from the ages on the gravestones it looks like Catherine Curran could be mother of Eileen Aughney, she is wife of Michael ?

death certificates might tell you something

matches the marriage for Michael Aughney

no wait, Catherine was the mother

well it looks like Michael married a Kathleen anyway ! or he could be a different Michael Aughney but in any case there is a Curran Aughney connection of some sort ...

have got a pic of a gravestone in Newtown.,Carlow.

I am tracing the ancestry of my husband

His paternal side is Curran...his maternal side is Aughney.

I was intrigued to see this headstone...

In Loving Memory of CATHERINE CURRAN..Newtown.,died 14th Oct.1967,aged 83yrs.

also MICHAEL AUGHNEY..Newtown.,died 16th Oct.1970,aged 56 yrs.

and EILEEN AUGHNEY.,died 15th March 1989,aged 78 yrs.

I would love to know how Aughneys and Curran are buried in same grave.

could they be somehow related before Leos' father John Curran m. Margaret Mary Aughney?

site is brilliant..and as we are not in perfect health, its a good way of finding things out.

have found all sorts of sites, simply by googling the name or the town...but sometimes i forget to write down where i found it,so can't get back on again!!(especially following links!)

well I meant a real trip like I'd like to take to all the many places where records of my families are stashed away, or at least I hope they are :-)

I even have one Irish ancestor (well, and then probably some back before him ) but his records in the English censuses just say he was born in 'Ireland' well before 1800, so I'm not holding out much hope I'll ever know where to look for him ...

sounds like an excellent site

if only my gent came from Carlow :-)

Elaine Report 25 Oct 2011 03:10

chrissiex...i found a brill site....its Carlow IGP.

have just spent the past 4 hours, ploughing thro thousands and thousands of baptisms!

very interesting tho...a Peter Curran, also tracing his family gave me Charles Currans' father as Patrick, married to Mary Barron(he's been tracing his tree for years)

i found 3or4 Currans' with the right father & mother, all baptized in Boherduff, which is my husbands' family homeplace.

couldn't find Charles, but there were a good few missing or illegible, around the time he was born(going off his son being b. in 1849)

i didnt know what way to take your statement "take a trip to wherever baptism records are kept and cour thro them"

but thats just what i did(from the comfort of mi armchair tho! lol

Elaine

Elaine Report 24 Oct 2011 15:24

i don't even know where baptismal records are kept!

would they be in the Church of baptism,or would they be in Dublin?

If,Dublin,i thought i would need a batch no.,...think i did for the other certs, and them came off the internet.

sorry for being a bit thick, but it takes a while for me to sort things out>

suggestions ? sure !

take a trip, go to wherever baptism records etc are held, scour through them to your heart's content !

not everything is on the internet :-)

Elaine Report 24 Oct 2011 11:00

OMG!..did look back cos i thought i recog the name.
must have jumped over a page!

why would Elizas' mothers name be down(even tho it scribbled out)?
could it be that the priest asked parents names(meaning both fathers)
,and was given both of Elizas' parents?

sorry i missed that Chrissiex...comes with old age i expect! lol

have bought a book off e-bay re tracing irish ancestors....been trying but still cant find Michaels' birth/baptism or Charles' marriage...so i don't know who Charles married.

Any suggestions please?
