I really doubt now about the other family on the passenger list, no Edna listed and another daughter named Grace accounted for. So probably futile following that any further...

We need more info! Is your friend SURE her mum was born nr London?

She may be best to order the marriage certificate. Deaths often have misinformation due to the informant being uncertain or plain incorrect. As you can already see how easy it is to head off down the wrong path!

From there, she will have definite leads. They are easily ordered online or use a transcription service like Joy Murrin, quite affordable.

Let us know what happens or if any new info comes to light!

Edna died on Xmas Eve - how very sad. Her age at death means she was born c1918, which actually makes the original Saunders-Winch birth that Jax found look good...

Their address in England was Abbey Wood London but they were listed as from a foreign country on the passanger list

I am not saying it is or is'nt them but the children were not born in the uk that I can see

Hmmm...if it was just the father's 2nd name that was incorrect, this would look promising...but it is quite a leap for Grace Emily to become Edna Grace?

One of the children born to Saunders-Winch in Watford was named Arthur E...maybe there is an informant error on her death cert? (Rats, just realised her father is named as Alfred E, not Arthur - always get those 2 mixed up!)

She certainly married as Saunders...if she WAS born in 1922, she would have only been 18 in 1940 so seems too young to have been previously married.

In any case there must have been a Saunders-Winch marriage since there are at least 4 children born to them! (Though she -Martha- may have been previously married I suppose).

Not seeing a marriage for the parents are you sure her name was saunders?
