Ben

My grandfather was john Joseph Bradford( who died in the war at relatively young age ) and my grandmother was Flo or Florence. They lived in Brewood Staffordshire with Flo dying around 1979.

There were a number of children from the union. Apart from Winnie and Kathleen there was a son, William ( Bill) and a daughter Dorothy ( my mother) . There may another daughter, possibly called Doris or Dot. At a young age my mother went to live with her grandfather, William Skinner at Littleham, Devon. William Skinner died in the late 1940's

Nan mentioned that her name may have been Kate or Kathleen Mansfield, she certainly lived into old age but i have no idea how she is related to me Nan.

After reading your other thread I would think that the birth of Clara Kate I posted above is NOT the right one. It seems more likely that the Kate you are looking for grew to adulthood so was perhaps an aunt by marriage as Flick has already suggested.

Not sure if this is the right one but could be a possibility for the sister your nan mentioned (if she means sister to Joseph Bradford):-

Birth:-

Name: BRADFORD, Clara Kate
Registration District: Cannock
County: Staffordshire
Year of Registration: 1887
Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
Mother's Maiden Name: Not available before 1911 Q3
Volume No: 6B
Page No: 480

and death:-

Name: BRADFORD, Clara Kate
Registration District: Cannock
County: Staffordshire
Year of Registration: 1891
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
Age at death: 4
Volume No: 6B
Page No: 331

This would need checking though as the death would have been before the 1891 census so she will not show on there.

You would need to look through marriages on FreeBMD for Elsie May and the others. Then you look for births of children using their married surname for the search and putting in maiden name Bradford.

Why on earth have you started another thread today, Ben?

It is just not fair to do so when you have been given ALL the info, and have seen it?

You will find that people avoid helping you in future, if you abuse their kindness

Hi Kath

I have ordered the wedding certificate for Joseph and Flossie as advised.

How would i go about finding information on their siblings, Elsie May, Mary Fellows and William Bradford.

My nan also seems to think there was a sister called Kate or Kathleen but i cant find any record of her.

Hi Ben

I can only say that if you are certain Joseph married Flossie Skinner then the marriage certificate will confirm Joseph's middle name and then you will know if the other information you have been given today is correct or not.

Sorry - I don't know if there were convalescent homes in Devon or not but it seems Joseph died in Staffordshire if the death record found is correct. You could Google to see if you can find any convalescent homes. As for Flossie's occupation, I would think it was doubtful that you will be able to find that out unless someone in the family has any information to give you.

I have to leave the computer now as my son needs to use it (it's his so I can't complain, lol).

Good luck in your research.

Thankyou Kath, I notice from the census it says Josephs middle name is James not John which my nan thinks it was, however she was not sure.

I know after war my grandad was very ill and had a lot of operations and therefore could it be possible that my great grandad was maybe recovering in Devon. Were there convalescent homes for troops there.... is there any way of finding out Flossies occupation during the war??

Sorry for all these questions...

Kath you are brilliant.... i will use Free BMD to try and trace Mary, Elsie and William Henry, is there any way of establishing when they were born??

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 11 Jul 2011 10:51

If you look at the 1911 census that I posted for Joseph Bradford you will see that he had 2 sisters and a brother:-

Mary Fellows Bradford
Elsie May Bradford
William Henry Bradford.

You would need to check marriages to see if you can find marriages for any of them (I usually start looking from the date when they would be about 18 - 22)

If you don't have a subscription to a website like Findmypast or Ancestry then you can check out marriages on FreeBMD.

Kath you are a fountain of knowledge, i can not thank you and the other contributors enough.... my nan is going to be thrilled when I show her this information.

Do you know anything else about Joseph Bradford did he have any siblings etc and what happened to them???

The way I do it is just to copy and paste the information into a word document if you have Word on your computer (which most have).

Is there any way of printing off the information from the threads... once i am able to do this i will delete the other thread and keep one open.

Yes, all certificates can be bought from the General Register Office.

You could copy and paste the information from one thread and put it onto the other or just keep the information for yourself and start a new thread on "Find Living Relatives" and give some of the information already found.
