I agree that the Samuel you have in 1851 has to be the right one if the marriage to Ellen is right. There can't be too many silk throwsters in Salford called Samuel and married to Ellen

(hope that didn't sound patronising, you seem to turn new angles up where I stare at the same thing for weeks without anything clicking).

Ann, in 1851 Samuel is living at 22 Union Street Salford with his parents in law, Joseph Brooks and Ellen Brooks , and Sam's wife Ellen and their son Joseph aged 2.

If this isn't the right Samuel, then everything I've done since the last month has been scuppered. :-\

Samuel seems to be fairly easy to find in 1851 (at least I assume it is him as I can only see the 1 person not the houshold)

however on his marriage record the witnesses were William harrison and Mary harrison

did Samuel have a sister Mary?

Samuel Morris in the 1861 census - Head - 39 - Labourer - born Pendleton , Salford.
Ellen Morris - Wife - 30 - born Salford
William Henry - Son - 7 - scholar - Salford
John - son- 5 - Salford
Walter - Son - 2 - Salford

while I'm waiting for my student, can I post files up here, like scanned copies of the censuses?
