So, are we agreed then ?- the most probable theory is that:

Richard Smith married Harriet Eliza Elgar in 1889.

Harriet Eliza was a sister to Abraham Elgar who married Kate Hughes in 1904 and they had a child Nellie in 1905.

Abraham died in 1908 leaving Kate a widow and she found employment as a Servant with the Caswell's.

Not being able to keep Nellie with her 'in Service', she sent her to live with her Aunt and Uncle Richard + Eliza Smith (nee Elgar.)

It all seems to work, though the only way to be sure is to buy some certs.

Hi everbody
Thanks for all the help and comments that have arisen today.Nellie Elgar was my mother-in-law's mother who passed away earlier this month. Today myself and my wife Lyn started the process of sort out her property, that's why I have not been hear to answer your comments.
Today I have found Nellie's birth and marriage certificate and Dea and Pam and others were on the right track. Abraham was Nellie's father and he had a Sister Eliza who married Richard Smith and this is who Nellie is living with in the 1911 census.
Will keep you up todate with further developments.

I'm now looking for nellie's Grandfather, Robert Elgar born 12.05.1849 in Isleworth, Middx with Parents Harriet and Abraham. Can anyone find Robert in the 1851,1861 or 1871 census have found him in 1881 married and with a family.
