I suspect this marriage to Martha Coultis is the correct one as the career of John Slater fits and the church and curate (Robert Heap) consistent with eldest child and sister of Rosannah (Rose Hannah) Nancy Slater. Would be good to track Martha and determine her earlier history and get a certificate linked to Rosannah that shows her mother's maiden name. That might all be wishful thinking. |

Apologies for going silent to one and all. A little bit of hospitalisation claimed my attention. |

1841 census looks to be the same family as that chrissiex found for Benjamin Slater in 1871 census |

the pesron who added the 'alternate info' to the 1891 census seems to know something about Rose Hannah, have you tried to contact that person ? |

I'm wondering whether this could be her birth....many of my ancestors couldn't read or write so names were written down as they were heard and as they couldn't read or write they were none the wiser! |

I shall continue to search for the death of Elizabeth Barratt to confirm and also confirm that Hannah Hobson was the mother of the last Long child, James Long. |

Thanks. I think you are right about Hannah being a second wife. I see that all of the children of James Long from Samuel down through Seth are the sons of Elizabeth. Also that there is a marriage between James Long and Elizabeth Barratt on 13 Dec 1824 in Otley. Later there is a marriage between a James Long and Hannah Hobson on 18 Jan 1837, a year before son James was born in 1837/1838 in Otley. |

Hannah could well have been a second wife of James Long |

The census seems to have Seth as son of James and Hannah Long. Christening for birth around same time in 1831 on family search shows a Seth as son of a James Long and Elizabeth (not Hannah). Conflicting mother's christian name and can't find another record to the contrary. |
