Hi Gillian, Many thanks for this - as you say it does suggest that these are his records.
Have just googled his father Joseph - very interesting family. It mentions a Henry who died in his crib so maybe my Henry was named after him.
With what I now know would you put them in the tree and see if anyone comes up? Many thanks

Dear Gillian
Sorry about wait. I sent a mail but it's gone somewhere.
I think this may be the family and the father is a famous painter just googled him.
With what you have found, if you were me, would you add him to my tree and see what happens?

Hi Gillian This is my 3rd reply to you - I hit submit and it goes but doesn't come up. 3rd time lucky.
I think this is the family- the father was a famous painter and had 7 children one Henry died early in crib so maybe my one was named after him. I think I will add the family to my tree and see what happens
Many thanks for the help.

Margaret Sorry, have been away from computer for a while I too have Googled Joseph and it would be great if Charles were of the family but only 5 children are listed on the site I looked at -Walter, Mary Ann, Claudia, Henry and Arthur. However they dont mention Eleanor so may have missed out more than one child. I fell Charles must in some way be connected and wonder if he might be of the family of one of Josephs brothers Joseph was bap 26/12/1793 St Leonards Shoreditch son of James and Elizabeth His brother CHARLES was bap there 9/3/1806 And there is another brother Thomas apparently
No you shouldnt assume anything until it can be proven I will have another look at the brothers and come back

Well, I have delved into Charles who was an Organist and Musician and married Elizabeth Barchard 6/1/1838 -he did have a son called charles but he was Charles Edward b 1839 Islington
Thomas bap 1/8/1802 St Leonard Shoreditch., a Professor of music He married twice (1) Caroline Plumstead 12/11/1825 (2) Emma Cawthorn 1/10/1839 all children from both marriages born England
So not a LLoyd among them -even the parent s of the three brothers JamesSevern b 24/11/1765 Holborn marrried Elizabeth Littell (not LLoyd)
The other possibilty is that Joseph -the only one with a lengthy stay abroad - had an extramarital affair with a Miss Lloyd in Rome and Charles was the result ! Dont know how you would ever prove it!

For my final throw of the dice I have found Charles in 1871 (mistranscribed as Charles L Levon) aged 37, single Author born Bologna Italy and living at the Westminster Palace Hotel in Victoria St London Wonder what he wrote?

There is one avenue you could explore -and that is the newspaper obituary for his death in Bromley in 1883 If you contact the Library in Bromley and ask if they have archive copies of the local paper (Bromley Times?) and the answer is yes, you could maybe view those on microfiche and it may give more details of his origins

Hi Gillian, Yes that's a good line of inquiry. Also your one before fits with my Charles.
I will look into the newspaper . His probate says formally of the Argus Club Park Place St James St but lately of the Fronds Sydenham Kent. I surmise that he had separated from the wife but as he was ill she took him back to live with her for a while as he died there.
I have googled his 2 children's names and there seems to be an Ireland connection. Juliets husband has Irish connections and Edith Beryl Severn comes up on a grave in Wicklow. However I don't have access to Irish records.
I will post an inquiry tomorrow as I live in Malaysia and its 10.30pm and I won't be up to see any replies today.
Many thanks for all the help.
