Quite new to this and really struggling to find my mackenzie ancestors

My GG grandmother was Mary Mackay 1836-1930 married to Alexander Mackenzie 1832-1891. They went on to have 11 children -
John c.1861, Roderick 1875-1893, George 1878, Alexander 1864, Jane c.1866, Jessie 1868, Kenneth 1870, Hector 1872 and Thomas, Christina 1868 and my great granny Mary c.1880 - she went on to marry John Paterson and lived in Braes of Kilcoy, killearnan, rossshire. I have lots of info on the Patesons but can't find out about the mackenzies. I can't find them on a census and have checked out the archive centre in inverness who couldn't find them either.

I would be very grateful for any help from someone who knows more than I do.
