Now that is odd, alviegal. Thomas's Freeman record in 1846 says he is a chemist resident in Edinburgh. And he was back there later as he was a tutor at the vetinerary college. But I suppose folk did move around even then.

Thanks Argyllgran, I have seen his death cert at the Edinburgh Archives, before it all came online..... He died quite suddenly of acute Bright's disease. One of his students wrote a poem about it, I have a copy, the original is held by a 'cousin'.

He was an apothecary but wanted to study veterinary science so came to Edinburgh and enrolled as a student with Professor Dick https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_(Dick)_School_of_Veterinary_Studies After receiving his diploma, he moved to Newcastle and then London before being appointed to the Chair of Lecturer of Veterinary Anatomy and Pathology.

Professor Thomas Strangeways died at Glengyle Terrace, Edinburgh, on Saturday the Bth February current, aged 44. He was born in the city of Durham, Bth November 1824. I 'opened this box' by finding the burial. Though I think the widow Helen is buried in Berwick upon Tweed, she would have a pension if she lived there as he was a Freeman.
