I'll do my best, have added it to my list.

John Report 7 Jan 2016 15:35

Hi Wendy,

If you have time could you please identify the father of the groom, George Willam Holland who married Winifred May Gettings 3rd qtr of 1919 registered at East Retford. I’m sorry but I don’t know the church but would have been around Retford.
I think it must be “my” George Holland, father Matthew Frederick Holland, but I cannot be certain.
Thanks
John

Thanks Wendy.

I know. I am clutching at straws. I was hoping there maybe a handwritten record in a book.

Its Reuben's father that's really bugging me. I have found a transcript for a likely birth

First name(s) Reuben
Last name Clark (without an E)
Birth year -
Baptism year 1820
Baptism date 10 Jun 1820
Denomination Anglican
Church St Mary
Baptism place Nottingham
Father's first name(s) Robert
Father's last name Clark
Mother's first name(s) Mary
Mother's last name Clark
Residence Turn Calf Alley
County Nottinghamshire

so where does the John Bradshaw come from??. Perhaps the vicar was a bit tired!

Gerry :-)

Hi Gerry,

I'll have a look for you but marriage cert's are copies of the parish marriage record so should say the same unless someone made a mistake, maybe the lied abt their ages on the marriage.

Hi Wendy

I have a marriage cert for Reuben Sidney Clarke and Mary Brown 4/10/1840 in Bingham Notts

My problem is:-

1) they are both aged 32 (1808) while all census records and death say they were born 1820/21

2) Reuben's father is given as John Bradshaw.

I am wondering if the parish records have anything different

Gerry :-)

That's OK Wendy. Quite a few Archives have stock-taking closures anyway in the early New Year. Now I've re-discovered the Notts data base, there may be others, if you don't mind?
Many thanks. :-)

Hi Det,

Leave them with me I'm afraid it wont be until the new year now as I went to the archives yesterday instead as something else has come up for today.

Hi greyghost,

I have your marriage of Henry C. Philp for you and will pm you a message with an attachment.

I have had a look at the 2 census as well and I do think that the 1901 census is a major mistake with the name Ruth as it seems all the detail are the same on each census.

Hi Wendy,

As and when you have the time could you please check out the details from a marriage entry.
Maria Elizabeth Hopkinson to Henry Charles Philip @ St Andrews on 26.12.1892. Would like to confirm her Father is George a deceased Cabinet Maker, ages and addresses given for both parties, grooms occupation, whether bachelor/widower and witnesses.
I can pick them up on the 1911 census, but oddly unless it's a major error, he is with a Ruth M Philip in 1901!

Thanks and all good wishes for Christmas and 2016

Hi John,

Leave it with me, I'm hoping to go into archives on Friday but if not it won't be until the new year if that's OK.

Just a thought as maybe Edith was known as Ada instead of Edith and there is no death registration for an Ada Newcombe

John Report 16 Dec 2015 16:47

Hi Wendy,
A favour please, I am trying to identify the people buried in a grave at St Barnabas, Ranskill in the 1950s and I believe the records are in the archives.
I have a photo of the gravestone sent to me by a relative asking me who they are but I am very confused,
The gravestone reads Ada Newcombe died 25 Dec 195? (either 3 or 8) aged 76 and he husband William Newcombe died 11 Dec 1955 aged 79.
It seems likely that William is part of my family as he died, I thought, 3 Dec 1955 but his wife of many years was Edith Maud and she died in Dec 1953.
Too many coincidences so I was hoping that the actual burial record would prove the name of the woman buried with William.
Hope you can help.
Kind regards
John
