Good afternoon Wendy hope you are well. You very kindly found me a marriage from the archives before , is it possible to find one from 1938?

It is one for a great aunt who married numerous times and had a very colourful life and I have spent a fortune tracking her down.

Her maiden name was Lawson but this is the marriage I think is hers:

Name: Annie L Parish
Spouse Surname: Hill (George H.)
Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1938
Registration district: Nottingham
Inferred County: Nottinghamshire
Volume Number: 7b
Page Number: 1029

I think she may have still been married to Mr Parish at the time!!

She was Annie Louisa Lawson born 1881 so would have been 56 at this marriage.

Many thanks for any help you can offer, Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,

I can go though the churches but will take a while as there is no index for after 1900 and a lot to go though.

Wendy please don't go to all that trouble. I will have to 'bite the bullet' and buy the cert.

Thanks anyway Jennifer

Wendy that is very kind of you and I am not in a rush. I have had a thought though that maybe it was a Register office marriage and not church. So that may make a difference to where records are kept.

Hi Wendy

I am trying to find marriage details for Agnes Perrell who married William Gaskell around Dec 1891 in Nottingham.
In 1891, Agnes was living at home at 25 Conway Street, Nottingham.
In 1901, they were living at 47 Wellington Street, Nottingham, parish St Marks.

Regards

Chrissey

Hi Chrissey,

William Henry Fox Gaskell and Agnes Perrell married at St Andrews Church Nottingham on 29 Dec 1891, I'll check the marriage record at the archives to see who fathers and witnesses were on my next visit.

Hi Wendy I'm hoping you can help me as I'm stuck and living in London means I won't get to the Nottinghamshire archives for a long time.

Agnes Louisa Foster was born 31st Jan 1915 to Arthur Edward Foster (Tailor) and Patience Foster (nee Padley) who sadly died during or very shortly after Agnes's birth. Agnes was born in Gainsborough.

Agnes is known in the family as 'Dolly' (it's taken me sometime to find out that was her nickname!) but sadly Agnes was murdered by her husband in 1937 / 1938. Her husband was subcequently hanged for the murder. Unfortunately we don't know the name of her husband and therefore her married name. We do know that they lived in Ollerton, and he worked at the time in The White Post pub at Farnsfield, nr Mansfield. We also know the event was in the Nottingham Evening Post but I've been unable to track any details. I went down a blind alley thinking Agnes married a John Brennan in 1933 but that was simply wrong. We know that Agnes lived in Ollerton at the time of the murder.

Absolutely anything you can help with on this will be brilliant. My Nan, Agnes's neice is still with us and has vague memories of the incident but would love to know more details about it.

Please let me know if there is anything else you'll need to help with the thread and I'll try and help.

Thank you so much
Rhoda

Hi Rhoda,

I will see what I can do but as you don't know her married name or her husbands name it may be hard. I've not done murders before but I'm up for the challenge.
