Hi Linda,

Obituaries would be in the Nottingham Evening Post paper, copies are held at the Library in Nottingham so send me the details and I'll call in there and look them up for you.

Hi Lorraine,

Sorry I've only been to the archives once over the last 2 weeks been busy with other things and lots of babysitting so not had time to look for your marriage but its at the top of my list for my next visit this week. I'll do both of your marriages first.

So sorry about that, time is going so fast lately.

Hello Wendy,

Would you have a look at the Nottingham St Mary records for the baptism of Stephen Shardlow. He married in 1802 so estimated date of birth would be 1770 - 1780.

Apparently the Crich Poor Law Guardians issued a notice for his removal back there in 1824.

Many thanks

Pam

Hi Pam,

I've had a look at my disc of christenings for Nottingham which has St Marys on it but Stephen Shardlow is not there. How do you know he was from Nottingham?

I've also had a look at my disc for burials and there is a Stephen Shardlow aged 42yrs of Nottingham Workhouse buried at St Mary's on 24 May 1826.

I'll do some checking for you at the archives when I next go later in the week.

Thank you for looking Wendy, it was always a long shot.

I don't know for sure that he came from there. I was contacted by someone who informed me of the removal of a Stephen Shardlow from Crich in Derbyshire to Nottingham St Mary. The death in the Workhouse could well back up that information although it would only have made him 18 when he married in Crich in 1802.

From previous ancestors being 'run out of town' I know they were usually returned to their place of origin.

Hi Pam,

I'll have a look and see if the workhouse records have anything about him. I'm not sure what records for the workhouse there are I know that there are some for later years.

Hi Pam,

I've had a look for Workhouse records for around 1826 and I'm sorry to that there was none so was unable to find anything on Stephen Shardlow apart from the burial I already told you about.

Thanks for looking anyway Wendy. Apparently his second wife was Sarah Leggitt, maybe there's a death for her which would at least add weight to the theory that this was Great Grandaddy x 4 Stephen.

One of these days I'll get up to that part of the world and have a root around myself
