Checking in Lovell's Directory of Montreal et sa banlieue (=suburbs) at:
http://bibnum2.banq.qc.ca/bna/lovell/
There are 2 Walters in 1956 - a janitor and a chauffeur.
In 1956, the janitor lives with Florence & Pearl at 2305 Hampton.
In 1960, there's Annie (widow of Walter), Flor & Pearl (a clerk) living at 2305 Melrose.

I'll leave it to you to check all the years.
NB Hampton is the cross-street where Cote St Antoine meets Ave Sherbrooke in western Westmount.
Melrose is 4 blks to NE - 2305 is between Sherbrooke & Boul des Maisonneuve abt 1km N of the Lachine Canal.
Head into city over Pont Jacques Cartier and continue NW on De Lorimer until one crosses the CPR track 1km W of Angus works. 5360 De Bordeaux is 1 blk to left, between Dandurand & Des Carrieres.

I posted a link on the 1st page here re: how to order certificates from Quebec but it says that you have to be an immediate family member to order a death certificate.

I dont think so.The question is if they have worked as Farmers, farm labs, stablehands or miners before and he says ...yes...he was a groom for 8 years..
Probably lied as he was a Greengrocer and his dad was a shop keeper too...But maybe he got work easier that way?

Although he must have had knowledge of horses or he would have been a bit out of his depth if asked to work with them in Canada.

Am I reading that passenger record correctly? Does it say he had been in Canada before for 8 years between 1901-1909?

I dont see it on FMP either...I have just had an ongoing "discussion" with FMP as to leaving the wife and children off a transcript on a 61 census there...Still trying to get them added even though they are transcribed on Anc they are making it hard work for me to win through
.......So maybe he was missed off by the transcriber of passenger lists there as well...

Edits............Just had an email from FMP to tell me they are adding Mr Davies wife and children to the transcript of 1861 census for him.....
1 to me....Perseverance pays off sometimes...

He is down as being married but can't see any more on him.

And no, you're not rusty at all. I found this yesterday but discounted it for some reason. It was your finding of the tree on Ancestry that jogged my memory. can't find it on fmp though.

We're so much better when we all work together.

I can not remember where to find the details to order a death cert in Canada..
I think 1958 comes within the being able to obtain one as I think the closure on deaths is 50 years?

Where are JC or Sylvia or any of the Canucks when you need them....??
