Further to my previous posts on this one I now have an update.

Isabella Newton born 1843 Hartlepool
Father Richard Newton, not sure who mum is though.
Isabella Newton marries Thomas Boyd in Hartlepool on 28 May 1861. I think Thomas died in 1877 or thereabouts, without checking back on threads etc.

I next find Isabella marrying a John Ambrose Bromhead Laxton in Fulham on 10 November 1900. Here surname is given as Pells (remember way back we had three names for Isabella. Isabella Laxton nee Boyd nee Pearls or Pell. Everything falls into place now apart from the fact that Isabella was a Boyd and when she marries J Laxton her name is given as Isabella Pells a widow. I know for sure now this is one in the same as on her marriage cert to John her father's name is given as Richard Newton decesased. Who was Pells? I have searched for a marriage of Boyd and Pells from around 1877 when Thomas died but can't find anything. Witnesses at the wedding of Isabella and John were Alfred Gibbs Laxton, Mary Elizabeth Laxton and David Cross Hay. On this marriage cert John's father's rank or profession is given as (what looks like) a Relicoing Officer. Has anyone any ideas on what profession that is please albeit John's father is given as deceased on the cert?

Has anyone please any ideas or could possibly solve this mystery of Isabella being a Boyd then being Pells when she marries John?

Any help would be much appreciated. I now have the marriage cert for Isabella and Thomas and Isabella and John which was just a hunch so I ordered the last one and it paid off apart from the fact that Isabella gives her surname as Pells.

Sorry, think we are cross-posting, as we have both arrived at the same marriage. I need to go to bed now also, as not noticing what you are putting. and losing it. You marry using your widowed name, normally - so did she marry between Boyd and Laxton to become Pells? Said I was getting befuddled.

Hi Patchem, eureka, think I've found Isabella. There is a marriage shown as December 1900 in Fulham for a John Ambrose B Laxton marrying an Isabella Pells, this is so close to Pearl, Peal of Peel that I had given earlier. I trawled through Free BMD year by year from 1881 to 1900. Isabella is said to have died in 1918/1919 in the Paddington area, there are two addresses given (1) Randall Road and (2) Elgin Avenue.

Please let me know what you think. I wasn't sure if one is a widow you would give your widowed name or your maiden name but I hope I have hit the nail on the head so to speak. Would be interested to know what you think. I must then go to bed soon have had a busy week at work and this research is so addictive but it's the only way you get somewhere by keep trying.

You can look on free bmd for marriages, trying different spellings. Not yet got her in 1891 nor 1901.

Hi again Patchem, yes this is the Isabella Boyd in the 1871 and there is Mary E Boyd, you're a star, but where is Thomas at this stage I wonder, I don't think he dies until much later on. The age of Isabella in the 1871 Census ties up with the age of Isabella Laxton in the 1911 Census. You have been a great help and thanks for that. Is there anyway still of finding out her maiden name though. If it is possible to find when she married Thomas Boyd then I can look at free BMD and try and find her that way. I know you have spent a lot of time with me so to speak and in finding all this information but it is also posible to find out who her husband was that she married with the name Laxton please. As you must be aware I don't have subscriptions for any sites hence my relying on good people like yourself.

Right, have been checking some paperwork. I have an Isabella Laxton who died in Paddington in 1919 she is given as being nee Boyd nee Pearls, Peal or Peel. There looks like there is the name of a road, Elgin Avenue and Randall or Randell Road. She had a daughter born 1861 Mary Elizabeth Boyd. I believe she was married to Thomas Boyd born 1837, am, as above trying to find her maiden name. It is interesting also that she had the name Laxton, this is showing on a 1901 marriage certificate where she is a witness. Sorry I am probably totally confusing you all now.
