Hi Keith. you will have noticed that I enrered the two locations the wrong way round ref: the burial location, but I'm sure you know what I meant.
Put it down to my "AGE",however the principal point is still the same.

There was a Mary Corbridge recorded in Porlingham Norfolk, can't be sure but there may be family connection(not with me) I just live in Norfolk!.

Sorry if I muddied the waters, will pay more attention in future.

Good luck,
James

That looks good LA - and there seems to be 3 children born in Wandsworth to that Corbridge / Price marriage. (son 1923, daughter 1926 and another daughter in 1928).

Family Whispers Report 16 Mar 2011 00:43

Hi Keith,

I think that I have cracked it.

You say that your gt uncle William Joseph Price, his wife Alice and son Robert are burried in this plot also one Mary Corbridge. (that is what I have read from your posts, and I have gone by the names you have put)

PAGE, 209

ENGLAND & WALES MARRIAGE INDEX :-

NAME, Mary Price. William Corbridge.

ENGLAND & WALES DEATH INDEX :-

NAME, Mary Corbridge
BIRTH DATE, 13 Jul 1896
DEATH REG, Apr 1997

So if I am correct and not barking up the wrong tree, it looks like Mary is burried with her parents and brother.

Gwyn in Kent Report 15 Mar 2011 22:40

Does it say she was born in Norfolk ...or that she lived there?

If she lived there in 1997 maybe she would feature in old electoral lists and you could check who else was at the address.... Might have to go back a few years though, but at 100 she is likely to have perhaps died in a home.....
Just clutching a few straws here........

islandintherain
that is a great thought .got the adress from info on details of grave gives her adress as Poringland Norwich Norfolk
i wonder if somebody brought her ashes to Warrington (silly statement i know obviously somebody did)
or i wonder if she married in Warrington then lived there
all puzzles to solve

Hi Keith

I haven't found a birth or marriage for a Mary Cobridge in Norfolk so assume that was her married name?
Also no Cobridges on any census for Norfolk. (FMP)

I have a whimsical notion of a neice taking charge of arrangements as can happen with maiden or long widowed great/aunts.

Keith

Keith Report 15 Mar 2011 21:42

hi i thought no family left because of her age .an assumption perhaps i should not have made .children grandchildren possible
i got info (or rather somebody else did and emailed me a copy
it was from offices at Walton crem who have records of all Warrington cemeterys.it states in plot Robert Price ..Alice Price ..William Joseph price
no undertaker info avalible .dates of buriel and container coffin.
Mary Corbridge burial of ashes and her age 100
it also has conversion next to all names apart from William no idea what this is not religious conversion in the cases of Robert and Alice
thanks to all who have given advice
i will try to unravel this .will post answer when i do .i am going to go to local library to see if there is an obituary in local paper for her as in the past i have found info from these

Hi Keith, Islandin the rain, has made a good point, why not get in touch with the CHESHIRE FAMILY HISTORY SOCIETY, they may well be able to you. There are a number of "CORBRIDES "recorded.
It may be her married name, perhaps it may have been her last wish to be buried in PORINGLAND,NORFOLK.
It's worth a punt as they say.
Good luck.

Hi Keith

This is an intriguing story.
If the lady is the same Mary Corbridge that LA has found a death record for then someone must have requested her remains be buried in Cheshire. Does the cemetary have a record of who or the name of the undertaker?

Why do you say at "100 years old then probably ... no relatives left" ? Maybe not of her own generation but there could be children/grands/greatgrands even nieces and nephews.
Somebody cared enough about her to have her taken to Cheshire for cremation or burial.

I wonder if Corbridge was her married or maiden name?

Edit
Maybe she lived in Cheshire but was visiting Norfolk when she died? Unlikely at 100 years but you never know!

Perhaps Mary had no family and she was intered in your ancestors grave, they would have dug a hole just behind the head stone so the grave would not be disturbed.

Valerie Report 14 Mar 2011 22:58

Hi Keith - I had a similar experience - I found my grandfather's plot in Lewisham (he d1950) .... with a headstone for someone else! I contacted the local council - who explained there were at least 6 others in same plot. I returned there last year and placed a 'memorial notice' in front of the headstone - with grandad's name etc. (was told grave/plots are dug 32ft!)

Keith

Keith Report 14 Mar 2011 22:43

thank you everybody for info. i find as i thank somebody then it looks as if i have not bothered to thank another
patchem the plot is R.C
i have info from the area office as stated as the cemetary itself has no office (just refer you to area office)
if she was as stated 100 years old then probably as you say no relatives left
just puzzeled as to why after so many years this one was chosen
i suppose i will never know
just curious i suppose as to why she came to be there
once again thanks all of you for answering

KathleenBell Report 14 Mar 2011 22:39

Have you tried putting her name into the "search trees" at the top of the page to see if anyone on Genes has her in their tree? (although Corbridge could be her married name).

If you get in touch with the cemetery they may be able to tell you who organised the funeral.

Kay???? Report 14 Mar 2011 22:35

Has the ladys name has been added to an exsisting headstone ?as thats most unusual..

unpaid plots have a life of 50years..in which it states the ground can be re-claimed if no ownership of the grave plot exsists.
