Hi Shirley,
Yes this is the only record I can find.
I feel he must be from an army family to have been born in India.

Hi Fellow Hunters.
Does anyone have access to Military record for India.
Gilbert N. Spankie was born in India in c1859.
On 1881 census he was in England age 22 a Lieutenant in Royal Rifles, and was single.
He married Catherine ? McAndrew c1884, some of his children were born in India and some in Inverness.
1901 census, he was not with the family who were living in Bedford.
