I have recently come across a framed & embroidered "Sampler" apparently in memory of an Austin Mower Fotherby who died aged 26 on 15 Nov 1866. The back of the frame shows it to have been framed in Barnack nr Stamford in Cambs. I can find no trace of this person either here or in Free BMD. I would like to reunite the sampler with a descendant. Can anyone help?

Patrick, might be worth contacting a local newspaper for the Fotherby area. A lot of them like these local history stories.

Thank you Dee, funny I found a silver mug a few weeks ago that belonged to OH dad..........it was driving me nuts.....it was presented 1869 to blah blah Hadleigh......well I looked everywhere for the name combination before the penny dropped that the last name may be a town etc.
Never heard of Fotherby.........but it worked!......

Thanks very much to all of you especially perhaps Anne!! I had assumed Fotherby was his surname ... but in error it seems!! I will post an interest here on the Mowers & see what happens.
Many thanks to all. Here's still hoping I can connect with a living descendant!

OK I'm now confident we are talking about Austin Mower b.1841 Fotherby Lincs who died 15 Nov 1866 in Fotherby, Lincs. His father was William Mower, Farmer of 35 acres in Covenham (1851) b.1803 & mother Sarah b. 1806. He had siblings; William b.1838, Mildred b. 1839 & Sarah b. 1842
I would very much like to offer this sampler to an interested current descendant!!
