I think that you are going in the right direction searching on Freebmd for your family. Buying certificates gives you facts to work with. That way you can be sure that your are staying with the correct line.

If you use census records too that will give siblings and spouses.

The above census is from Ancestry.co.uk (who also have more recent BMDs than are available on FreeBMD)

The familysearch beta site is also a good free site.

The thrill is, of course, finding information yourself but there is no problem with just adding to this thread if you are stuck again. Speaking for myself, I have no problem helping with numerous queries within the same family. It only irritates when some-one keeps "nudging" a thread when the question has been answered and they just don't want to spend money on certificates. No helper is going to buy the certificate to help them in those cases.

Rootgatherer, i can only assume at this stage that my father (gerald little/leckenby) that doris and john are listed as his parents,as these are the names given to me by him,i think it may be wise to check on this though? my dad may have his birth certificate so thats saves me £10!

David, if you don't have the marriage certificate then I would buy that to get the names of the bride and groom's fathers and their occupations. That will may sure that you are tracing back the correct people. I am assuming that on Gerald's birth certificate that John Little and Doris are given as his parents?
