The George Chamley you have listed for 1864 is wrong as mine on the death cert says he was 65 when he died in 1900 so he was born 1835 which matches with the one for Poona
I know this to be correct as his brothers daughter has left something to us in her will

I have looked at the service records for George Chamley b Poona ( no middle name given ). He didn't leave the Army until 1879 and at that time he was based at Aldershot. He went to Bermuda in Dec 1873 and previous to that had been in Devonport in 1872. Are you sure that this is the George Chamley that Ellen married?

Back to Samantha - 'but i have found a marriage for Ellen Jane Taylor to George Edward Chamley but this is March 1873 which is five years before her marriage to the Vicary man and on George Chamleys death cert that i have it also states that Ellen Jane Chamley was present at the death and was his widow and thats dated the 1st December 1900.' Actually this 1873 marriage is CHARNLEY and is in Blackburn. I don't think it is your couple.

The census details would have been written by some other member of the household. Perhaps she was asked where do you come from rather than where were you born.

Still trying to find husband & twins in 1881. Would like to know what happened to Frances Edwina.
