It might be worth purchasing the marriage certificate of Jane jnr. to see if that reveals anything.

Ah yes that would seem more likely! Oh, where are you Jane?! The logic would suggest she died between 1851 (When she is in Cheshire with her daughter), and 1861 (when she cannot be found, and her daughter is living with her aunt and uncle) ... Still, I can't see any likely marriage or death at this time.

Jane senior ... could this be her death under a corruption of her name?
Deaths Jun 1856 (>99%) Bratt Jane Nantwich 8a 195 Scan available - click to view
It is such a shame that ages are not given at this time! Can I confirm that there is no sign of Jane in 1861/1871 etc.
Thanks again

Haha no worries at all about the spelling mistakes! Easily done. Edward Harrison Martin appears quite a bit in the newspapers ... he seems to have been involved in the military in the 1850s. Thank you for the 1891 for Susan Martin ... seems she died in 1925.
Well, thank you again, as I seem to have discovered a great deal about Jane Brett (1843-1875). However, what became of her mother is still a mystery ... any ideas where to look now?

Both Peter and I wonder how it is that these monied rellies passed us bye. The Auntie Phillis who lived in Farndon , and her daughter, seem to have had money and now this line .....but not Peter & I ...ah well, back to the grindstone! Barbara

One little mystery solved: Daily News (London, England), Saturday, June 29, 1889; Issue 13488.
Mr Edward Harrison Shaw, for twenty-two years Lord Crowe's agent in Cheshire, died suddenly yesterday,at an hotel in London. He had been to Windsor to visit the Royal Agricultural Show.
Maureen
Edit: Thanks,Pam! Shaw should read Martin. Doh!

Ar, thank you Pam, and please excuse me for not reading your post correctly! Thank you so much ... and thank you also MaureeninNY for pointing that out and for finding their children.
Thank you also safc for the marriage but like Alex, I currently agree that this is probably not Jane senior as her parents are Thomas and Phyllis.
It is interesting to see that Jane junior may have the middle name of Roberts as an indicator as to who her father is. It is also nice to see that Jane junior had a daughter named Phylis, as this seems to help validate a connection (which is important as her father would probably not be listed on the marriage certificate). Jane's grandmother and aunt were named Phylis, and Jane and Edward Martin married in the parish where her aunt Phylis lived (Farndon, Cheshire).
This is possible Jane's death ...
Surname Given Name District Volume Page Deaths Mar 1876 Martin Jane Age 31 Newcastle L. 6b 42
The district Newcastle L. is an alternative name for Newcastle under Lyme and it is in the county of Staffordshire
This also appears to be her husband's death, although I have no idea what he is doing in London:
Deaths Jun 1889 (>99%) Martin Edward Harrison 61 Holborn 1b 368 Scan available - click to view
So, with this, what became of Jane senior?! Thank you again for this help!

I doubt the Jane Brett and Robert Knowles marriage is correct if the father is stated as Joseph. Her baptism gives parents as Thomas and Phillis.
