I may not be able to reply as I messed up while updating my profile.
There are no ages on the civil certificate, but Charles would have been (1823-1870) 47 and Anne (1839?-1870) about 31. I have all the census and death information.
Yes I had noticed the Kildare connection and started looking for all the Merins in Kildare. I do think Cullen is an error for Anne's father (and possibly a marital error for her!! as the best fit marriage is to a Patrick aged 80 something.)
The civil cert. is clearer to read.
Now let's see if I can post this
Thanks.

Anne....
I am having a terrible time with the site today....(it keeps freezing and the stopping completely) so heres hoping this comes through....
The Latin in the Register goes something like this....
Name of Groom Address Name of Parents... Any Dispensations Name of Priest Name Witnesses Address of Witness Any other Info.
You will see that witnesss Dyonsus (Dennis Merin) was from the Co Kildare... Now it may be that the surname has been mistranscribed but he could be relation...or vice versa ..that William (Cullen) Murin...has been mistranscribed...
You can see below Anne name that there is a notation...Alias "Murin".... What ages were on the Cert for Charles and Ann...?

Hi Erin and Maura,
I hadn't realised that this correspondence had run to a second "page" so have been replying to earlier messages I think !
But now have cottoned on and have been looking at the original church document myself.
It gives place of residence for both parents doesn't it? Both parental couples lived in same place didn't they?? but I can't decipher it.
Needs someone who knows lots of Irish place names.
Or have I got it all wrong. I don't know Latin either to translate the headings.
More help needed.

Thanks, Maura.
At the moment I'm getting "no result" for every search I've tried on the church site. Have studied the photos I have of the state document. The mothers' names are not given. Occupations of the couple are. And "dec." is added for both fathers. Does the Church one give death clues for the mothers?
I think we should assume that father's name was Merins and Cullen was an error, don't you?
At least I can add 2 Mary's to the tree.
best wishes
Anne

Anne, the copy you have is from the offical registery, where as the one on the site I name is from the church records. In some cases the church records can have more information.

thanks very much Maura.
Someone in Dublin got me the certificate and sent me photos of it. I'll look at those pictures again and see how I misread or how the photos missed out stuff. I didn't see any reference to the mothers. Does Jacobi translate as Jacob or James?
This could get me a whole lot further (except for a name like Mary!!!)
best wishes

Wow. thank you.
But what does it mean?
Charles Maher married Anne Cullen (1870) he was from Naas and she from Gardiner St.Dublin
Charles' father was Jacob (or James??) and Anne's was William Cullen???? Charles' mother Mary??? and Anne's mother Mary Murrin/Merrin ?????????
What record is this, please?
The marriage certificate which I have a photo of says her father was Wlliam Merins. She gave Mearns as her maiden name on both her last children's birth certificates.
Did her parent not marry?
I am so puzzled. Look forward to hearing from you again.

all this time on and I now have the marriage certificate for Charles Maher and Anne Mearns in August 1870 in St.Mary's Cathedral Dublin.
Both were widowed.
Anne is Anne CULLEN
So am needing the marriage details for Anne Mearns , father William Merins and a Cullen. Anne Cullen was a servant in 114 Lower Gardiner St. Dublin at the time of her second (or last ) marriage in 1870. Still looking for the parents of John Maher 1845 Ireland, believing Charles resident in Naas at one time, to be his father and James Maher shoemaker his grandfather. Both Charles and John were tailors and lived in Swan St. Liverpool and died in Liverpool. Anne was godparent to John's children.

Hello everyone,
I'm wondering whether Anne Mearns/Maher my gt. grandmother 1831? to 1906. was married twice. Mearns was presumably her maiden name and maybe she was widow Gannon marrying Charles Maher in Naas in 1868. What do you think of that idea?
best wishes and thanks to all.

dear Thistledown,
My first message to you seems to have disappeared, but I am delighted cos you have found my missing gt. uncle, Charlie Maher in Dublin. He is re-married after the death of his first wife in England.
I can't see a connection with any of the other people. Unless 16 yr. old Charles at St. Kevins is really 6 years old, then he could be Charlie's son.
How can I find descendants of Charlie and Mary Ann Maher, please?
I have another Irish research problem. Charles Maher senior born 1823 may be the father of John Maher also a tailor born in Ireland in 1845 and they both lived in the same small street in Old Swan, Liverpool where Charlie junior was born. Can this parentage be traced, please?
Thanks ever so much Anne
