Sorry RR but which 1901 census?
I have not posted any about Louisa.

The tree notes were from Thomas Samuel Read.

The tree owner has her mother as Louisa unknown.

If this is your grandmother she married twice born in march and had 10 children. She died 1989.

Lady K looking at that 1901 census has Frederick as butchers assistant aged 28, not 'very' likely he would become a lighterman... in as much as it does tend to be witing families and served apprenticeship from young age....

Your ears were burning?

LadyKira

LadyKira Report 20 Oct 2010 18:24

Does louisa have a middle name?

Any other siblings?

So far we do not know where they were born

just where they lived in 1918.

They could have been anywhere 1911.

It would be too easy to follow the wrong Smith.

jax

jax Report 20 Oct 2010 18:22

Very true LK but on the 1911 he worked on the docks and maybe Lighterman sounded better than porter?

But Frederick is not a lighter man.

Maybe Rambling Rose can hep?
She has lightermenand watermen records.

Can we get electoral rolls for that adress to check on other family members?

jax Report 20 Oct 2010 18:14

Frederick smith could not write as his mark is on the 1911 census also the marriage cert also has his mark, so looks promising
