It could well be her but marriage cert is really the only answer to find out her fathers name I'm affraid

its a bit frustrating when you are almost there.
I am wondering if I have found the right Phoebe as I have found several that might be the same person

the annoying part is I have her with william, mervyn with the right dates with her as 1889 and a birth record for 1889 sept
but another record for the same address shows her as 1890 but as phebey with birth as 1890
so I think it is the same person

Its not a cheap hobby if you want to do it properly. I have just spent £72 for 6 months on FMP plus it was well over £100 on ancestry for a year.

the problem is it is starting to become a bit expensive and although I have paid for 6 months standard use on here and for 15 record views on ancestry, I am using the free records sites that have been mentioned on here which has opened up a few more areas to look at. As well as the software I've bought for the laptop!

I had no idea that researching it was going to be so expensive!

You could always purchase her birth cert to see who her parents were.

I cannot see a marriage for her though

ok, I think I have jjust found Mervyns wife as my mum said Phyllis and yes found a match through the freebmd site!

If you look on freebmd there are quite a few births in that area for those names as they are pretty common in Wales.
They could of been cousins maybe?

there was definately a nancy as my mum remembers her but not sure if was grandads sister or aunt.

nancy married Captain John C Townley who was captain of the Queen Mary for a while and my mum seems to remember that Nancy died possibly as recent as 1970's

there was a lady who we called nana peg who lived next door to my grandparents that my mum seems to think was my grandads stepmum.

it all gets a bit confusing though

poss same info has been given so it has been deleted by the poster

Nancy was not born in Bridgend so maybe she was not a sister

As mentioned freebmd is the easiest, but they only started putting mothers maiden name on late 1911
