I think James Park is of his family but def not his Father as his father is John on his marriage cert and is a mason.
Maybe James is an uncle or cousin.

Will have to leave you to it and maybe a holiday to Hoddam Dumfriess?

•Dumfries & Galloway Family History Society at 9 Glasgow Street, Dumfries, DG2 9AF, Scotland. Telephone: 0044 1387 248093. For the past two years DGFHS have been working on a project to digitise all their Memorial Inscriptions publications into a database which can be searched against Family Names. This database is NOT online, but access is offered in two ways...
1.Members may email DGHFS and request a search against five names and the research results are emailed back as an attachment in RTF format. (Members may request any number of further searches and these are placed in queue for attention later.)
2.ALL visitors to our Dumfries Research Centre, whether members or not, are given access to the database and the results may be downloaded to floppy disc or flash memory cards. There is NO charge for the service. This is essentially a service to members who are unable to access our Research Centre. As a courtesy, non-members who email requests are offered a single search.
The project is still ongoing, currently the database contains: 89,318 individual burial inscriptions taken from 20,600 monuments in 169 graveyards; 4,500 different family names (including variations) are recorded. With the exception of the most recent surveys carried out by our members these are partial graveyard records.

Hi Ellen, I am a member of DGFHS so I will email them for a search of the MI for the surname Park.
Thanks for the above info regarding the other residents living with John and Janet Park.

I did find a marriage for a David Park and Janet Jackson 23/2/1827. David Park Mason of the Parish of Halfmorton and Janet Jackson of this Parish. this is the only marriage I can find for Janet Jackson so I wondered if John Park was David John and used his middle name. What do you think?

http://genuki.org.uk/big/sct/DFS/parish_map.html

HALFMORTON, a parish, in the county of Dumfries, 6 miles (N. W.) from Longtown; containing 737 inhabitants. This place derives its name from its having formed part of the ancient parish of Morton, of which, on its suppression in the early part of the 17th century, one-half was merged in the parish of Canobie, and the other, named Halfmorton, though still remaining as a parish quoad civilia, was ecclesiastically united to the parish of Wauchope. On the subsequent erection of Wauchope and Staplegorton into the present parish of Langholm, in 1703, the minister of that parish officiated only every fourth Sabbath at Halfmorton, which, in 1839, was consequently disjoined from Langholm by a decree of the Court of Teinds, and erected into an independent parish. Halfmorton is situated in the south-eastern part of the county, and is bounded on the east by the river Sark, which separates it from Cumberland; it comprises an area of about 5700 acres, of which 125 are woodland and plantations, 400 moss, and the remainder chiefly arable, with a due proportion of meadow and pasture. The surface is agreeably diversified, and the scenery embellished with thriving plantations. The Sark is the principal river, and a small stream called the Logan flows through the parish; in both these are found trout, but not in great abundance.

Ach.The Parks born in Halfmorton are bound to be related.

Hi Ellen, trying to get my head around this, as you can see from cyn's remark not the quickest.
Do you think John Park b.1787 and Janet Byers b. 1787 are his parents because the age of my John Park b1791 suggests not. I do think your right about James Park being his brother.
Now the 1851 census I have suggests that the Janet Park on that is not my Janet Park nee Jackson, but Janet Park nee Byers, if that makes sense.

Deaths are usual not registered in Scotland before 1855,so MI's are the best way to find a death in a certain area ,also lets you know who is buried in the same lair.Poor Relief Records can also be a good source for info.
