I am searching for the Lindsay Family - James and Bridgett, their children James, John, Doreen, Patricia, Maureen and Elaine. They came to Canada in 1930. I know James (Jimmy) and Maureen are deceased as are their parents James and Bridgett. Can you help in any way. I think James and Doreen were born in Northern Ireland but the rest in Canada. They apparently lived in Toronto.
Regards
Irene

Hi, I wonder if you can help me. I was told that my fathers uncle Freeman Mitchell born sept qtr 1889 in Halifax Yorkshire emigrated to Canada. Unfortunately I have no other information about him or even what year he went out.
Is there anything you can find out about him perhaps on passenger lists which might help me find out what became of him. His unusual christian name may help.
Thanks for anything you can do for me.
Frank

Lorraine,
Thats amazing, you've provided me with a wealth of information, I had nothing to go on other than his birth details. It will take me a while to absorb this but I suspect it will raise other questions I need to persue such as where did he marry Eva and what was her surname. What is the 50 year rule ?
Thanks for your help , that was wonderful !

records in canada are subject to a 50 year rule which means they dont release records unless for next of kin until 50 years after the event.

Hi Lorraine,
Could I ask for another look up please, You were brilliant last time in finding info on my Baker's.
I've done some digging around and have discovered that Arthur J Baker died before 1909 as someone found his wife on the census in Pennsylvania for 1909 stating she was a widow. So I think he died around 1907 - 1909
Could you possibly do a death look up for me please for him -
Arthur J Baker died around 1907 - 1909 Pittsburg, Allegheny, Pennsylvania, USA
Many thanks,
Regards, Lou

Hi Lorraine - happened on this thread on a google search for names in someone's thread on TTF. ;)
Just wanted to mention: there isn't actually a 50-year rule for access to vital records in Canada. It's more complex -- in Ontario, for instance, it's 100 years for births, 85 years for marriages, 75 years for deaths, in terms of searchable indexes (at Ancestry). British Columbia has a later cut-off for deaths. Only about half the provinces have searchable indexes on line. So the black hole is deep and wide.
Just so you don't try to find things that aren't there! ;)
9/11/10 - Well, maybe that information will help someone else ....
