CHAPMAN Frank Clement Oxley Whitchurch
Brilliant: I have him as Frank Clement O ..., and it answers my quetion about Oxley being part of her name, neatly ties up a loose end!
And you've found a Polish (sounding) name, my contact person was looking for a Polish connection. Looks as if you've found the magic link!
Thanks Prickles!!

Well, well, well, there's "Clements"! I wonder whether that is a fluke?
Is "Oxley" Rosa's middle name? I've been caught before like that where I've confused part of the address with a middle name ...
Thanks Prickles!

A possibility as Rosa was born in London...
?? Marriages Sep 1857 (>99%) Chapman Daniel Marylebone 1a 862 Clements Rosa Oxley Marylebone 1a 862
Looking at the image of the 1871 census, the "A" could possibly be an "O".

Thank you again, Dea. This seems to say they moved from Salisbury to West Ham between 1851 & 71, is that your interpretation too?
Is there any significance in the order that the children are listed? I wonder why Charlotte is the last while she appears to be the eldest?
Can someone find a marriage for Daniel and Rosa A, looks as if it should be around 1855 - 60.

Just back for a minute - I didn't post anything on her as it just said 'relative' born Canterbury and I didn't have time to look.
A very quick look now looks like she was Daniel's sister??
She is here with a brother Daniel of the right age and birthplace (for him), though this census gives her birthplace also as Salisbury.
Perhaps someone else could follow them right through the census's to confirm before I return?

Helps a lot, Dea, thank you very much. That's almost certainly the right Frank, Clemens and variants were a family tradition.
Might you be able to find more on Charlotte S Chapman 44? Elder sister of Daniel perhaps? Some census extracts give the family relationship.
Thanks again

Might someone be able to find the marriage record of Frank and Edith, I'd guess about 1885, please?
Ideally this would include their parents' names but that might require ordering the certificate.
Many thanks

A happy ending, well, more of a happy beginning! Thanks to Barbara I'm in touch with a member of the family, had a good conversation with her today, so we'll see what we can dig up between us.
I'm very grateful to Jan for the post that brought me here and Barbara for putting us in contact.

Hello Barbara I'm new here, I joined when Google turned up your post above. I was trying to find out about Edith Rose Chapman of 327 Victoria Dock Road, so I am very grateful to Jan for the census extract. I called Edith "Aunt Edith" but she was not really an aunt, rather a long standing friend of the family, particularly of my Father's - he knew her in the 1930s I think. My parents lived with her at 327 in 1943-5. I knew her while she was living at 5 Snaresbrook Hall, Wanstead and stayed with her often, she visited us often too. I don't have a record of when she died, I guess I was 10-12 perhaps? Edith's father indeed ran a laundry and had excellent relationships with the shipping companies and the ships, Edith ran it later but it declined and eventually had to be sold which was when she moved to Wanstead. She had family in Rhodesia and used to visit them. Maybe some of this is interesting? If you know any more, I'd be very interested to hear it. I'd love to know more about the friendship between her and my Father. Keith
