My mum has an aunt whose middle name is Lewis. We were told that this was the surname of the household where my gr-grmother was employed as a domestic servant, and the "father" was the son of the head of household.

That naming pattern is very common, in fact.

If only we knew what the name was. ;)

The Patrick-Roberts marriage certificate is the only sure way to get Eliza's birth surname Lynne -- as long as she reported it correctly. ;)

No luck finding a previous marriage of an Eliza Man* to a Roberts in the right area.

Maybe Lynneknows where they are in 1871.

I am searching for my great grandmothers family. Her parents names were Richard and Eliza Patrick. On the 1881 census Georgena M Roberts is 14 and shown as the daughter, I cannot read her middle name - if anyone can decipher it I would be grateful
