Thank you so much Dee. I can't thank you enough. My friend will be over the moon to discover what happened to her dad's family. Her mother and father were not married so everything became very confused! I will pass on all your information.

I think his name must have been James Walter Preston and not John Walter Preston but that is nothing new in family tree research. Names tend to get messed about with, lol.

John Stanley Preston's mother was Annie Newcom but unsure whether that is the correct spelling. Annie Newcom was born c1891 and believe John Walter Preston was born c1875. They were married in Canada presumably in the same district as John Stanley Preston was born.
