I wonder why they didn't marry in England before they left so they could travel as a married couple? You don't suppose he was already married? |

Helen, I don't believe there's an Edmonton in Ontario, the only one I know is in Alberta. |

Just to confuse the issue more, there's a tree on Ancestry that has James Walter Preston born 1884, Skipton, Yorkshire, son of William H. Preston & Alice Lomas. He was married to Annie Elizabeth Newsome and had a daughter Alice Mary Preston (1915-1998). She died in York (England, I presume) This Alice Mary was married to a living Sayner and had a daughter living Sayner. |

MM - practically begging for a correction, and I'ld normally oblige excepting I think you're right. Aside from Edmonton AB, the only similar sounding city I can think of is Edmundston in the NW corner of New Brunswick. Of course, like most Canadians, I've only got the vaguest idea of what's north of 60. |

Thank you to all the additional contributors. The fact that John Stanley Preston was born in Edmonton was given to me by his daughter. Dee - His daughter was born in East Sussex, England, in 1943. I know that J.S. Preston came back to England before 1943 and died in Sheppey, Kent, on 10th January, 1967. |

I see what you mean MM about Alice dying in York, England. As she returned to England in 1932 with the intention of living in Skipton, Yorkshire, that would be quite logical. I am now going to check up on her marriage and family. Contact with her living relatives would be fantastic for my friend. |

Yes Dee but was hoping to get information from living relatives of his sister, certificates are expensive now and an informant might not even be a relative. It could even be that my friend has his death certificate as she did know where and when he died. Contact with the living is what my friend desires now as she feels she has no family although she did have a half brother and half sister who have now both passed on. |

Correction to the birthplace of John Stanley Preston - think it was Peterborough, Ontario, NOT Edmonton, sorry. |
