Hello Jill I have got copy of the Major's cert, it was my great great grandfather Alexander McNaughton present at death and it was London and sorry I do know where the Major was born - India 1807, parents James Wight and Eliza Yates married in India 1805.
Anne thank you for the list of James Stuart on IGI I will check them out, it is difficult finding things for Jamaica as I know with trying to track Nancy Stuart.

No - makes perfect sense to me - and is exactly the sort of thing I would try to do.
If you've found the Major's grave you could try for his death cert as that should give his age (depending on when the event happened and who informed the registrar etc). His age would help to perhaps pin him down in censuses and find his birth place etc.

Well and please don't shout, last year I was looking for a Major General Arthur Cleghorn Wight on this site and did get some info, but not enough to tie him to my tree. Long story but this man left everything he owned to my great grandmother, her will only states my 'late relative' so ever since I have been trying to connect the 'Wight' to either McNaughton or now 'Stuart. Anyway I have just found the grave of the Major and he is buried with my great great grandfather and his wife. The grave was purchased by a Catherine Stewart (Stuart) and I remembered a contact had said she thought that the Major had a sister Catherine who married a Colonel James Stuart. Sorry for the bumble but it makes sense to me!! So hence I am trying to find this marriage to see if James Stuart is a brother to my Nancy Stuart.

But how did you get to them? If they're not direct ancestors then are they siblings of direct ancestors? It all helps.

You will need to add just a little bit more information Angela as it's needle in a haystack time otherwise ...
If you are descended from one of their children then the details of that child might help.
If you have any idea of whereabouts in the world the marriage may have taken place that might help too.
Jill
p.s. Have you Googled?

Not too much info here but i think that Catherine Wight married a Colonel James Stuart, the only dates I have is that it would have been in the 1800's. Can anybody shed any light on this please Thank you Angela
