We have her in 1861 census,


so after that

Also I wonder what she meant by her answer to how long has she been married?

She was obviously not married 1911 as she is a widow.

Did she give the total years married or total years married to last husband?

She was married to Samuel for 32 years so 18 years of married life to find.

If her figure of 50 years is correct we should be looking c1861 for first marriage.

Hmm food for thought there I must say.
Why is traceing ones family so complicated?!!

I was going on the assumption that being only 36years old and a widow, she had only been married the once!
The only way is for me to order John Joyce certificate but which one do I order?

Same as her birth certificate as there is also Mary Rylands birth Prescot Lancs 1843?

What is interesting is that on the 1911 Census she states she would have been married 50 years, had 4 children still alive, but I only know of two, her son John Joyce and her daughter by her 2nd marriage, now that would be confusing and a puzzle to solve!

I do understand that people's occupation does change over the years as they have to go with the work.

You will of course have to back this up with ccertificates etc but it was the nly Mary with father George.

FBG is still a little dubious because of George's changing occupations. Mechanic was his occupation on Mar'ys 2ndmarriage cert

but just a thought.
We have not found marriage to Joyce but what if that marriage was her second marriage?

Well just got back and found that Ladykira and Madmeg has kindly joined with Potty and FannyByGasLight in this mystery!
Thank you one and all for all your input and information that you have found for me. I really appreciate this, as it is one brickwall I had not knocked down! But thankfully through all your help it is crumbbleing away.

What confuses me is all the different ways the surname has been mistranscribed over the years!

I see still no marriage, !

Still cannot find Mary's first marriage.
