Hi there,
Sorry for my late reply, but I have been away for work for a few days and with no access to the pc!
Wow, that report from The Independent is awful; how so sad! For Rose to have lost both of her parents within months and then be subjected to a regime such as that is absolutely appalling! My father was at a catholic school in the 1960s and often tells of being hit with slippers and a nun ramming his forehead with her sovereign ring.
Thank you for the suggestion of writing to Nazareth House Headquarters in London; I did so some time ago now, and it was upon reading over the letter that I decided to look further into what became of Rose.
You correctly found Eliza's death in 1899; her admission papers to Nazareth House in Middlesbrough confirm her date of birth, but place her birth location as Southwark; they also state her name as Elizabeth NOT Eliza. She was admitteed on 18th June 1892 at the recommendation of the Board of Guardians, and her parents were stated as being dead. Elizabeth left the house on 13th June 1897, spending nearly five years there. Elizabeth`s death is noted from an annotation of her Nazareth House admission papers.
I wonder if Eliza's name was changed Elizabeth as it was seen as a more Catholic name, and to tie in with Nazareth House?
Now, what is sad is that I have made a connection about Rose's admission to Nazereth Huose in 1895; she was was admitteed to the house on 23 March 1895 at the recommendation of the Board of Guardians.
On 23 March 1895, Rose's aunt, Theresa Wood, my ancestor and sister of Catherine Feeney, was in Middlesbrough Police Court as a defendant against her husband who had assaulted her the previous Saturday night. He had blackened her eyes previously, refused to find work, and he had dragged her down the street by the hair, from a party that she was helping with.
Her husband was given two months hard labour, and vocally ostracized by the court. I now wonder if Rose was living with my branch of the family, and after the court case the authorities removed her from the house, placing her in Nazerath House.
I suppose if this is the case, it shows how ones actions can have a huge domino effect!

Found this posting on Ancestry
The records for Nazareth House, Middlesbrough are held in the London Headquarters of Nazareth House, the address you need to contact is:
Charity Name: Poor Sisters of Nazareth Building: Nazareth House Street: 169-175 Hammersmith Road Town: London County: London Country: England Telephone: 020 8748 3549 Fax: 020 8563 7421
I wrote to them a few years back and got a lovely letter back enclosing a small amount of info which was all they said they had on my relative who was in there from 1900 until 1901.
If you give them a ring they may be able to tell you whether they can help.

Hi there, and thank you for this information!
I feel I may have misled some people on here; when I wrote, Rose Feeney would have left the order under a different name, this was in response to someone saying that Rose could have married in the early 1900s.
As I know for fact she didn't leave Nazareth until 1908 as Rose Feeney, I was trying to discount that marriage suggestion!
But I suspect that due to my poor grammar I may have sent some people down the wrong track!
For that I apologise!
Hmmm, yes Rose Ann could of become a nun, and to be honest, I had thought of that myself! Now the death in 1969 could be interesting as could the marriage in Sleaford; trouble is, these are quite a long way from Middlesbrough, Yorkshire!
Hmmmm!!!!
Also, this is Rose's family: 1891 census - household transcription Person: FEENEY, Rose Ann Address: 81, Stapylton Street, Eston, Grange Town FEENEY, James Head Married M 47 1844 Loader On Railbank Ireland VIEW FEENEY, Catherine Wife Married F 36 1855 Ireland Dublin VIEW FEENEY, Thomas Son Single M 15 1876 Greaser On Railbank Middlesborough Yorkshire VIEW FEENEY, James Son Single M 12 1879 Scholar South Bank Yorkshire VIEW FEENEY, Eliza Daughter F 10 1881 Scholar South Bank Yorkshire VIEW FEENEY, Patrick Son M 7 1884 Scholar South Bank Yorkshire VIEW FEENEY, Rose Ann Daughter F 4 1887 Grange Town Yorkshire VIEW FEENEY, Ellen Daughter F 1 1890 Grange Town Yorkshire
James and Catherine/Kate died within months of one another in 1892.
Also, you found her brothers Thomas and Patrick in 1911, and for some reason I couldn't find Thomas, although I did have his marriage!
Thank you for this!
Trouble is, where is Rose?!
