Cynths - I thing I have found your Joseph Smith

1901 England Census about Joseph Smith
Name: Joseph Smith
[Jospeh Smith]
Age: 13
Estimated birth year: abt 1888
Relation to Head: Son
Gender: Male
Father: John Smith
Mother: Alice Smith
Birth Place: Wigan, Lancashire, England
Civil Parish: Failsworth
Ecclesiastical parish: Failsworth St John the Evangelist
County/Island: Lancashire
Country: England
Street address:

Registration district: Prestwich
Sub-registration district: Failsworth
ED, institution, or vessel: 2
Neighbors: View others on page
Piece: 3772
Folio: 35
Page Number: 19
Household schedule number: 113
Household Members:
Name Age
John Smith 42
Alice Smith 52
Mary A Smith 20
Richard Smith 16
Joseph Smith 13

Source Citation: Class: RG13; Piece: 3772; Folio: 35; Page: 19.

He married Charity Warren in 1912 and then Charity re-married in 1925

They only had the one child in 1915 - Mary Alice so it looks like he disappeared around the war years.

Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1912
Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference
WARREN Charity SMITH Joseph Leigh Register Office or Registrar Attended Wigan & Leigh ROL/70/66

Lancashire Birth indexes for the years: 1915

SMITH Mary Alice Leigh Wigan & Leigh WARREN L/38/114

Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1925
Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference
SMITH Charity Ann MARSHALL Joseph Leigh Register Office or Registrar Attended Wigan & Leigh ROL/86/111

There is a tree on Ancestry which links his death with this death:

UK, Soldiers Died in the Great War, 1914-1919 about Joseph Smith
Name: Joseph Smith
Death Date: 11 Sep 1918
Death Place: France and Flanders
Enlistment Place: Atherton, Lancs
Rank: Private
Regiment: Loyal North Lancashire Regiment
Battalion: 1st 4th Battalion (Territorial Force)
Regimental Number: 42010 ................*** should be 42019 !!!
Type of Casualty: Killed in action
Theatre of War: Western European Theatre
Comments: Formerly 400925, Manchester Regiment

There are several errors on the tree so it can't be totally relied on, however, the marriage to Charity and her subsequent marriage to Joseph Marshall do make sense. She did have one child to her second husband and his birth confirms that she was originally Charity Warren.

I can let you have more details tomorrow but won't be in till late as I have to be up and out at silly o'clock 'coz I have a date with a plastic surgeon ;-) :-0 :-(

Oh Linds - I do wish they would sort something out for them, it is obvious that they really do need proper help and very soon.

Sounds like a step in the right direction Linds and he can still 'enjoy' his music.

Will he still be close by when he is studying ?

Dea,

He has told the band he is leaving. he loved the travelling but he had to take unpaid leave from work. What they made didn't give him much extra cash.

He is helping on their next album but is fed up working in asda. He wants a job with a future so at long last has recognised that he needs to do something to achieve that goal.

so saying he has just bought another guitar :-D
