No 2 son is back from hols, safe and sound ( I always worry when he goes away with the lads)

There was a penalty shoot every night, where they were staying, if you could score, you got a bottle of champers...............they scored every night

My son has had to go into work today. His store was flooded due to the HEAVY rains on Thursday. He got to work on Friday to disaster.

Was late home on Friday in yesterday and again today. This was in Greenock which was badly hit.

It is raining again here and the forecast for the week is more of the same.

HI all, hope you are all having a nice weekend :)

Sat night had a combined birthday dinner with my brother. Roast dinner went down well, and we all ended up watching old episodes of Dave Allen on tv through the internet....so funny I had forgotten how clever he was..have to admit that it was the first time i had seen the funeral race episode which I believe is quite famous :-D

Today was spent pruning some of our roses so my arms ended up scratched to bits..worked all day so am glad to have an early night tonight!

I'd hate to be burgled and we're fortunate that we have neighbours who watch out for each other. :-)

I have had 1 unread message showing for over a year .............. I cannot find it in the first 10 pages ........ although I am not about to back through a 100 or more pages


It is currently showing 3 unread ................ that's that one, and 2 that I don't want to read :-D


But I got an email from GR yesterday to tell me I had FOUR unread pms :-0

OH got stung by a wasp earlier this evening (Saturday) ................ a man knocked on the door on Friday evening to tell us we had a "HUGE" wasp nest on the side of the house.

It actually wasn't the largest paper wasp nest we've seen ............... but it was attached to the side of the house and hiding behind the Viburnum "White Icicle". OH had been working in that border only a couple of weeks ago, and had not noticed it!

I didn't measure it, but I'm guessing it was probably about 9" or 10" deep and about 7" across at the widest point, plus about 3" or 4" deep to the wall.

Turned out we only had a small amount of Wasp and Hornet Spray, so OH sprayed what we had into the nest.

BUT he forgot to buy any more today ................ so he sprayed some water into the nest this evening


............... and one wasp came flying out, and stung him just under his left eyebrow very close to his nose! It was just above the frame of his glasses

He seems OK now, after a little bit of home treatment!!


It always seems a shame to have to destroy the paper wasp nests because they are just gorgeously made!

No rain here ................... still sunny, and they are now forecasting sun through until at least next Thursday

That means we will have had no rain since June 27 ................ I'm sure we have had previous Julys which have seen 0 mm precip, but no-one can remember!


Fortunately, the temperatures are lower than they were ............ only around 23 or so

we've been burgled twice, both times during the day!

First one was about 25 years ago ................ neighbour's son saw two boys from his school acting strangely, watched through the fences (he lives 3 doors away), then told his Dad when he heard a window break. Dad told his wife to phone the police, then he and his son came to the end of our driveway and watched the house. The boys dashed through the basement, up the stairs, and then out the front door.

They left the front door wide open ................. so the police just walked in when they arrived, and began to search, take fingerprints etc.

We arrived home (someone phoned us), to be greeted by one of our city's finest walking down the front steps.

The boys hadn't taken anything of great value ................. they had picked up the post from outside the front door and ripped open one envelope from the Gas Company ...................... unfortunately it was the invoice to be paid :-D

They threw on the ground about 2 houses away.

A friend told us later she was listening to the police band on the radio ........... and heard the police chasing the boys through the neighbourhood. They broke into 3 more houses .................. going in the front door and straight out the back door! ............... before the police finally got them!!


The second time was about 5 or so years ago ......................... OH was phoned at work by the Alarm company to say the alarm had gone off, they would phone the police but could he get home ASAP

Turned out I had left the house only minutes before this guy had kicked in the back door ............... rather eerie feeling!! He must have been watching the house!


He got about 10' into the house, and then the alarm horn went off. We have 30 seconds to turn it off after an outside door is opened.


He turned tail and ran out the back door and away.

It turned out that the police were already on their way when they got the call from the alarm company ................ a local woman had reported a man behaving suspiciously! Nice lady!!!

OH was met at the front door this time by a police woman, who stopped him going into the house ................... the police dog was still searching the place, and OH was not allowed in until the dog had been "stood down"
