You've got a point there Dea....
....I drove to work, went in the wrong direction and when I tried to 'get' where I was going..........it had turned into a 'no left turn'

Airing cupboard....so 19th cent!
I've never seen the point. You pile up your nearly dried clothes and they are so dense, no airing goes on at all!

Awwh - that's nice Cynths - I am sure that you find it a great escape at times !! <3
By the way, don't you miss your airing cupboard now that you have a combi boiler ??, especially with all that washing and ironing that you do !
My son (the plumber) was always telling me how good they are but I would never have one because I would lose my airing cupboard and don't know how I would manage without it !!

It's a little summerhouse in our little back garden. It is all wired up and I do my ironing out there when the weather is good. I can also go out there when I need to 'take a deep breath'...... ;-)
It now has a new door frame and the windows are going in tomorrow. :-D

Combi boilers can be purchased here but they run on natural gas... and ahem ahem we don't have natural gas.
A lot of people do opt for the HWC being put on the outside of the building to give them more space inside.. we have lots of space (not all between our ears either).. and we have Mains pressure and that is not the one you have outside... I think.
OH was in his jamas...he was not feeling well and it was me that had to put on boots and go outside to help young chap get the old cylinder on the trailer.. was glad when his boss arrived and the pair of them brought it in and installed. With having all good pipes, fairly new valves etc it was cheaper than we thought it would be.
So yes it was farcical..

Good morning all... :-D
Ooooh. toasted sandwiches! I lurve toasted sandwiches. Thank you Persie. Please could I have a bacon and tomato double!!! :-D
I'm so glad that we got rid of our hot water cylinder a few years ago. It's so much easier with a combi boiler and, no worry about bottoms dropping out!!
Are we allowed to say 'that' word on here???? ;-)
Persie, your tale reminded me of a Whitehall farce.........all it needed was your OH running around wearing rather loose trousers!! :-D :-D
Gotta guy coming shortly to sort out my little sanctuary. Back later ~~~

No indeed.. he did look at me and say what? It is what is called a temporary one.. not sure what SIL is going to do with it.. He came and got a lot of his stuff from our shed on Sunday but he couldn't take the coffin.
Anyway ....
Not sure whether Sylvs will be back with food..
so have made some mousetraps with the breadcrusts.. marmite and cheese or vegemite and cheese. and a pile of toasted sandwiches choice of
Creamed corn, Bacon, Bacon and avocado, tomato and cheese, ham and pineapple, Pineapple and cheese, spinach and feta, mushrooms and cream cheese.
There is porridge in the pot.
And the electric frypan has stashes of bubble and squeak.
In the cauldron is not Fan's witches brew but Potato and Leek soup.
Also some lemon drizzle cake for afters.. my Sri Lankan neighbour came over with a big bag of lemons.. yippee.. Every year I watch them out my kitchen window dropping off the tree to mulch on the ground... they don't eat them. I did nick over one night last season and pinch two or three.

Ours was made Dec 91, and we probably had it installed early 92 I guess.
The old one that was in the house looked like an antique and it was in a stupid place in corner cupboard of a bedroom and the plumbing underneath travelled down to the back bathroom then to the kitchen on other side and then back across to the ensuite.
So we had it installed in the existing linen cupboard and had three pipes coming from it on their separate routes. And eventually walled up that area in the bedroom and opened it on the other side to make a bigger wardrobe in a small bedroom. Persie

Hi Persie
what a mess for you!!
back about 1998, we were away somewhere. Daughter's then boyfriend (now husband) defended his thesis, they had dinner, then she came home while he continued celebrating.
She went down into the basement to get something ................... and walked into water.
Hurried call for boyfriend to get here quickly.
They tried to mop up the mess .......... then she had a bright idea ........... they went to the local store at about 10 pm and rented a carpet cleaner
They met us at the airport the next day with the news.
The bottom had literally dropped out of the hot water cylinder.
Mind you ............ it was in the house when we bought it in 1972!! So we had no idea of how old it actually was!
The next one we got ......... the bottom dropped out after 5 years. It was guaranteed for 5 years ............. but the company (Sears) had become complacent about service, and said we'd have to wait a week, and they "certainly don't do weekend calls" ............. this at 10 am on a Saturday morning.
So, we called a local company, he was round in less than an hour, with a new, much better cylinder.
Still keeping my fingers crossed about that one!!

Our Hot water cylinder leaked last week.. carpet was wet in lounge and we couldn't work out where water had come from..
Put some towels on the floor.. picked them up later and they were sopping and the water had spread... himself wasn't interested in me making a fuss about water as he was too busy with outside work on back porch.
I went into hallway and opened HWC door and floor under the toy box was wet as.. hauled out toy box and the water was racing out in fast drips near the bottom of cylinder.. suddenly himself became interested. He failed at turning everything off ..
Plumber called and he came and turned everything off and said will be back tomorrow lunch time with new cylinder. In meantime cleared out forever all our blankets, duvet inners, sheets etc..
Next day very wet, man in truck arrives with cylinder he wheels it to front deck and proceeds to roll it on to deck.. tells himself to get out of way re his feet.. uh oh he should have stayed put, I could see what was going to happen went to stop it but too late the angle that he rolled it meant that the top edge of cylinder rolled onto French doors and broke a pane of glass.
Plumber's assistant arrives to remove old cylinder.. what a struggle getting it down the newly painted back hallway with me giving strict instructions to mind the paint. He said to me do you have a trolley.. yes but sorry can't use it, it is under a coffin. This is what comes of having a SIL that is an undertaker. It got rolled onto the trailer which we conveniently had the tow bar of, on the high back step of the porch.
Himself has been busy .. he had to remove all the slats which were nailed in before cylinder arrived and since then he has had to shape some of the slats to go around new cylinder.
I have wiped shelves down last night and today I am going to put everything back and sort and discard some of the toys as well.
We will be able to say house has new cylinder when we put it on the market.. can't complain it had lasted seven years beyond its used by date.
Next time himself will pay attention when I point out that there has to be a reason for something and we better find it ... right now!!!
