We had grandchildren yesterday after school and, as you know, little grandson is just 5 and started school a few weeks ago.
It is an excellent school and they must have already started to teach the children about what to do when the fire bell rings.
I was downstairs cooking tea and I had forgotted to close the door from kitchen to hall. There is a smoke alarm just outside that door, in the hall and if I cook toast ot anything a bit smoky it sets the alarm off so I usually close the door to prevent this.
The alarm went off and grandchildren were upstairs with grandad.
Little grandson quickly asked what it was and grandad said it was the smoke alarm. Grandson stood up immediately and asked - "do we have to leave now"? at the same time, grabbing his big sister's hand and heading for the door.:-D :-D :-D
It is very good that they do teach them such things so early though. ;-)

Good morning all :-(
Yes - It WAS hot Sylvia but it is much cooler now - I will have a look at the heating system later ;-) :-D
Thanks for putting the kettle on Ginns - Do you want to share some danish pastries and croissants while I make a start on breakfast?
Porridge, of course! Plently of fresh fruit to choose from to accompany it.
Eggs, any way you want them.
Bacon, sausages, fried bread, mushrooms, tomatoes all cooking nicely.
Various hams and cheeses with crackers or warm fresh bread rolls,
Toast and various sweet or savoury spreads.
Enjoy...........

Hi everyone
Gosh, Dea!! Your house must have been hot!!!
I was at the docs today ......... it seems that they are happy to leave my bp medications as they are at the moment, my "poo" test was OK, but they want to do a punch biopsy on a thingy on my shin, "just to be sure" :-( . So I have to go again next week to have that done :-( :-( :-(
The weather is quite beautiful here ..................... it has been really sunny for the last 3 days, cool (ca 10-15C in the daytime), and getting down to around 6 or 7C overnight.
I have 2 Jade plants that spend the summer out on my sundeck, but they spend the colder months on a large windowsill in the basement. I had OH bring them in late on Wednesday night when I realised it might get as low as 5C. I hope I hadn't left them out there too late in the month!
It is Canadian Thanksgiving on Monday ................ we will be just the 2 of us this year, but have ordered a turkey breast from the butcher.
Take care everyone

Phewww er !!
I took the grandchildren home and went up to my office to have a browse around on here and suddenly I was hit by those 'hot flushes' !!!
I thought that had all finished about 15 years ago ;-) :-D :-D
I then realised that all my radiators were pumping out heat at an incredible rate
I think that my central heating thermostat must have gone 'doolally' :-S
Anyway, I have turned them all off now and will sort it in the morning!Q
It is SO hot in my house - all the windows are open and if anyone wants to join me for a sauna or a summer barbacue supper there is plenty of spiced chicken, rice and spaghetti bolognaise - you are all very welcome!!! :-D

Alice Munro, a Canadian short story writer, has won the Nobel Prize for Literature :-D
Unfortunately, I am not much of a fan of short stories, so I have not read many of her works

Hi Gins
Thanks xxxx
I wasn't thinking of taking it off today!!
I did put some more gauze over the top, and more taping.
It's now a much larger dressing than the doc put on!!
OH says it doesn't bother him that it is so obvious .............. but didn't like the comments from a couple of people this morning, full of dire warnings re infection and what "happened to my b-i-l" etc :-(

Try....wetting the dressing with (sterilised) water, a lot, and leave it to soak through, before taking off....gently
BUT.............not yet, give it a few days

Gins ........
problem is no-one really tells you what to do with things like that!
I think we need to put another dressing over the one that I put on ........ the bleeding seems to have stopped. It isn't dripping anyway!!! But the pad does look discoloured, and not too appetising for others to see.
Any suggestions for how to get the dressing off without removing the scab in 2 or 3 days time?????
I should add the wound is on the back of his ear, near the top, and the tip. So he can't really see to do anything
