Good morning everyone and welcome back Sylvs :-D

Thank you for breakfast, though I am not sure I can face any after reading about Dea's black gunge..... :-0

Something isn't right there Dea and you should get someone in to sort it pronto!

Like Sylvs, gunge can build up in the outlet pipes and I occasionally make sure they are clean by pouring boiling water and soda crystals down the waste pipes but I can't think we have had any in the toilet :-S

It's daughter's birthday today and I think the gang are coming round here at about 11am. I think I had better have a quick tidy up so that they can make a mess of it all again... :-D :-D :-D :-D

Back later ~~~~

I've been catching up the UK weather, and the floods

The weather here was pretty good ................. mild, dry, and even some sun.

Quite unlike what was happening in Toronto and southern Ontario, and in New Brunswick. They had a major ice storm before Christmas, and thousands of people are still without power .......... and some are unlikely to get it before New Year.

At one point over 300,000 people were without electricity!

AND ............ there is another storm for them tonight and one over New Year!

I was sitting here watching the TV news before we went away, thinking "if this had been a year to go east to our daughter, we'd have been in the thick of THAT ............ or that ............ or that"!

Daughter bought grandson a pair of snowshoes with money I sent ................. they had him out on them today (ie, Sunday). He apparently loves them!

They're waiting to see if they get part of the next storm!

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 29 Dec 2013 21:34

Dea .................

we get black grunge in our waste pipes leading from the sinks, especially in the bathrooms ............. it can appear up around the plug, and can block the pipes if it builds up too much

That is caused by bacteria living on the stuff that we put down the sinks ................ hair, soap, fat, etc.

BUT you should not be getting it from the inflow and the taps.

You really should contact the powers-that-be to come and see what is causing it.

We had a good visit away, bit different from the norm in many respects, but still enjoyable.

One of the weirdest was on Boxing Day ....................

My daughter phoned from the East Coast to tell us that one of our friends was in hospital ............ in the city where we were :-S

She had tried to phone M for Christmas, but the phone was answered by someone who had gone in to water the plants and feed the cat .............

M was taken to hospital on Christmas afternoon after having trouble swallowing.

We hadn't made any arrangements to see M who was spending the holiday with other people, so the other 5 of the "close" friends hadn't realised.

M has been released, but more tests are pending ............... it seems that it might have been a very bad attack of gastric reflux ............... but as she is 87 ..................

Dea,

We had trouble with our water supply once and the council sent someone out to test the water. Could you do that?

You should be able to drink the water from your taps so must be a fault somewhere!

We are spoilt here our water is so good I miss it when we are on holiday :-D

Hi Toots nice to see you <3

Now where is Jonesey? Probably still stuffed from all that food on Christmas day ;-)

Good morning all :-)

Thank you for the lovely breakfast Cynthia <3

About the black gunge - yes, that is with us all the time - it builds up on the taps and in the toilets so I am for ever scrubbing them and bleaching to get rid of it.

We have never had the problem anywhere else we have lived.

Dea Xxx

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 29 Dec 2013 07:37

Morning all.... :-D

Ewwww...Dea. Do you get that black gunge from the taps all of the time, or is it just whilst there is the ongoing problem? I can certainly understand drinking bottled water in those circumstances, but I just meant about drinking it in general.

Looks as though I am on breakfast duty again.

It's going to have to be a quick one because there is only one 'sitting' at you-know-where, due to the holiday season and it's an hour earlier than I am used to....... zzzzzzzzz

Okay, a quick scout around and please help yourselves..

Cereal
Porridge

Bacon and eggs with tomatoes or mushrooms

Crumpets and croissants

Toast a plenty

Tea and Coffee and fresh juice.

Must dash ~~~~~~

Dea

Dea Report 28 Dec 2013 21:00

Cynths - you would drink bottled water if you could see the black gunge which comes out of my taps and into my toilets !!!!!

"What IS that annoying tweeing noise? "- I can't imagine ??? ;-) :-D

Nite nite nows,

I rarely buy bottled water Dea, can't see the point to be honest...... :-S

Enjoy your trip Gins.....

Linds, I can remember my granddaughter cuddling up for sleep too....it was so wonderful to have little arms wound around my neck........gulp!

I went up to the attic last night and, in doing so, some of the plaster dust came down but I decided to leave it until today to clear up. In the end, I decided to hoover every room in the house and tidy up after Christmas.......Quite enjoyed it too!!

What IS that annoying tweeing noise? :-S

Dea

Dea Report 28 Dec 2013 18:28

Enjoy your takaway Linds <3

We just had a bit of a surprise - we wanted something warm and soothing after all the rich food at Christmas so I looked in the freezer and brought out something which looked like a beef stew - the label had fallen off but is had chunks of beef in it and carrots so I 'pinged' it and did some veg and dumplings to go with it.

When I had cooked it I realised that it was a beef bourginon !! - To be honest it was a bit rich with the dumplings plonked in but it went down well all the same. ;-) :-D

Dea,

That lot should keep you going for a while <3

Gins enjoy your visit with your family :-D

We had F today as big sister was at a party she wouldn't go to sleep for grampa so I had to go and lie down with her and she cuddled in and went to sleep.

Oh it was lovely to have a little one fall asleep beside you brought back memories of her daddy doing the same thing and it doesn't seem so long ago that he did ;-)

Think I will have a lazy night and order a takeaway ;-)

Dea

Dea Report 28 Dec 2013 17:09

Is that an Easter bunny on your avatar Ginns ???

You are becoming as far ahead as the supermarkets :-( :-0 :-(

Talking about supermarkets - I went to mine today and intended, amongst other things, to buy some bottled water. I never drink tap water even when it looks clean and would not dream of making the children's cordial with it.

Unfortunately, due to our local water problems there was hardly any left on the shelves.

However, as I was driving to the exit I noticed several men in those yellow shiny jackets standing by stacks of bottled water - they gave me 18 x 1.5 litre bottles for free and even carried it to my car for me :-) :-) :-)

That's what I call a good deal :-)

I didn't like to ask them for enough to have a clean bath in ;-)
