Hi all

lovely and sunny again ........ heading for the 3rd or 4th warmest and driest July on record!

total ban coming for all city parks and beaches tomorrow because of the high fire risk .................. including NO SMOKING

as of September 1st, there will be a new city bylaw in effect ...... no smoking in parks or on beaches.

have a doc's appointment this afternoon

OH took the car in for its check and tune-up this morning ....... time for new brakes, only $700

...... it should be ready in time for OH to take me to the appointment, I hope!

AND OH called the plumber yesterday, guy came round this morning to give an estimate for the reno of the kitchen ..... we'll get the estimate by Friday. Guy arrived 30 minutes early ..... I'd just got all my clothes on but hadn't yet dried my hair ....... good job I changed the usual sequence in which I do that!!!

But he did have some good ideas for the kitchen!

See what you mean Ja...x

I am still getting at least one message per day where the poster is oblivious to how to find their message even after looking at the FAQs. I then painstakingly go through the sequence......soooo wearing at times.

Gins......have always loved Yorkshire and have spent mega hours there. Not sure about Sheffield though!

Sylv, sounds like you should have stayed as you were......might have got a reduced price for your kitchen!!

Hi Cynth !!

I am not sure about Sheffield either - Yorkshire has some beautiful places but I seem to remember the 'smelly chimeys which come up about J 34 on the M1 - Is that Sheffield ??

we used to spend our summer holidays at Scarborough

Mum and her parents had been going since the early 1920's, then dad and she went with my brother and her parents every year up to WW2.

Then they started again about 1947 ........ when people were allowed to go to the seaside.

I went every year with them for 1 or 2 weeks (Wakes Week) up until about 1958

The last time I was there with my dad was in 1961, the year Mum died.

It was weird to go back to stay there with OH in 1995

................... so little had really changed!

The buildings along the seafront and elsewhere were almost all the same buildings, only the businesses occupying them had changed.

Have never really visited the Yorkshire coast but would like to one day. Tend to stick to the Dales areas.

Not Sheffield though!

What do you think of this.......have heard that there is a wedding booked at a church near us.....nothing unusual in that.....loads are booked in for this year apparently.

However, the couple are in their late 80's, early 90's and will be in wheelchairs......bet there won't be a dry eye in the house.

ARRRRGHHHH

I had a message from someone on Ancestry this morning. saying our trees match.
They have opend their tree and it is a mess. They seem to have made children as second wives and gone round in circles. Husband and wife both recorded as dying 1844 but marriages and census reports added for 20 years after death.
I would not mind but this means others are also given this info. This is my direct laine so I will have to put in time to safe guard my tree.

Sheffs is ace.....we live dead south in Sheffield, the peaks are 5 mins away by car

..and the city is 10 mins away

Best of both worlds

One of my dads cousins daughters has the same tree as me but she has the wrong father for our gt grandfather.
Thing is although I have the origanal marriage cert with his name as George she has William but it was a London marriage so she could have seen it anyway.
Not going to bother to mention it lets see if she changes it.

I was also in contact with someone on the otherside of my family who told me she was really into this family tree lark!!! wondered why I could not find her grandfathers birth. Since found it he was born out of wedlock and who knows who his father was....she had no idea when I told her, would have thought she would of wondered why she could'nt find her own grandfathers birth reg??

There was a One Name Study Group on my father's name

The originator of that ONS organised a meeting for people with that name about 2000, and gave them all a cd of the family tree

I didn't start doing my family history until 2003, so knew nothing of this.

Cousins in Australia somehow got hold of a copy of that cd, and then made a copy for me in 2006.

When I opened it, my dad had disappeared, my brother was my dad, married to my mum who was showing as about 28 years older than him ......... and I was their daughter.

In trying to put all that right .................. I discovered that the "owner" of the ONSG was my second cousin, grandson of my dad's eldest brother

He refused to answer any emails or snail mail from me, even when pressured by the Registrar of ONS.

He removed himself from the ONSG, thus removing the family name study, rather than have any contact with me

................... I unwittingly had the proof, and had told him so, that much of the work had been done by his brother and my brother in the mid-1980s. He had then stolen the work and passed it off as his own. I knew about the 1980s work, had printed material and letters, other siblings of his now on GR have since told me the rest.

The only thing that I can imagine is that he relied on the memory of his aging father (my first cousin) ....... and never ever checked it out.

The brother's work did not include my generation.

All I have been able to do is make contact with someone in the US who has been doing large amounts of work on the family ...... she assures me that the corrected version is in the files that she maintains.

But what about all those cds that are in existence from the 2000 meeting?

As far as I'm concerned my tree is for my use only. On GR there are not many names as I found it difficult to use, but today someone wanted me to share my tree as the 2 names she had matched my 2 gt aunts but not the same family unfortunatly, but I helped her anyway.

I'm quite proud of my ancestry tree and so far no one has copied with all the dates on my paternal grandmothers siblings all being correct with date of births from baptisms I have looked up in London.
There were 16 children born and I have found 15 and everyone else only have between 5 and 8 and the birth dates have been taken from the census only so most are a year out.

Anyway I'm waffling now and should go to bed night x

GR continually tells me
Congratulations ....... you have 132 names in your tree

that's on here.

Really and truly, I have at least a couple of thousand ............... never counted them!

Then there's OH's tree ..... which is not on here!

I have a slightly larger private tree on ancestry.

............... and I don't have any of the ones at home in the "usual" tree format anyway .... daughter, who is the only person who might be interested in having them, is more interested in seeing details about their lives than a dry "tree".

So I have them set up as Generations for each individual family name.

sleep tight

I'm jsut about to go and make my bedtime cuppa
