just had one of those weird messages

Subject: Florence Smith

Unless Florence had a middle name of Gertrude we are not connected. Regards

I have not contacted him before and I have 4 Florence Smiths.

Glad the cream tea is going down well.

LK - Florence Smith - must have got a hot match and decided it was you pestering them maybe?

Yeesh. "The system matched mine with yours, but they don't match so go away and stop bothering me ..."

I just went through mine. Discarded all the ones with Mary Hill born 1843 in Australia and Staffordshire etc etc (to my Mary Hill born 1843 in Jersey) ......... The ones that irritate me are the ones who don't put even an approximate place of birth for their person. Sometimes I contact them, just in case, no stone unturned. I say where mine was born, who the parents were, whatever. I get back a PM saying we don't match because theirs was born in X place. So I generally PM back and say what a good idea it would be to PUT THAT IN THEIR **** TREE (in nice small letters and without the *s), and then other poor descendants of James Hill c1790 or whatever will know they don't match and click on by.

Pub ancestors! My mum and I visted her mum's uncle's pub in Worksop, known in his time as the Gas Tavern. Can you imagine?? We got a free drink from the new landlord and landlady (it's part of a chain now) and wrote an intro to the history of the pub in their guestbook. And hung out with all the luvverly narrow boat guys spending the afternoon there. The luvverliest gave us a tour of his boat. I very much regretted having brought my mother along ... When we got home, my mum sent them a framed copy of a WWI photo of all the local lads lined up in uniform in front of the pub. Never heard back, though.

When I used to run a pub we had an old lady turn up one day saying she was born there.
The pub was made up of two buildings joined together one half was thatched built in the 1600s the other half built in the 1700s. She could'nt remember the thatched part and decided it must be a new addition ummmm.
The inside of the pub was also used in a well known british film of the late 60s.

After asking someone why they deleted their thread with all the info I had given them, I then recieved access to her tree followed by request to view mine. I then explained I was just helping and we are not related and I cannot repost the info because the thread has gone. This is the reply I got
Jax,

I don't like the tone of your email nor do I appreciate you implying that I am a liar!!!!!!!

I am not computer literate and being new to such websites as Genes Reunited, I am never sure whether I am deleting messages/emails or not.

If you did a lot of work on my behalf - more fool you. Why did you not wait until there is a connection? I have no interest in viewing your Family Tree nor am I remotely interested in the work that you have done. You know where you put it!

You have also been deleted from my Contacts.
