I have copied the potato pancake recipes, ta very much, and will offer them up to No.1 once we get some potatoes. No directions as to whether "mealie" (we call them baking) potatoes or otherwise? And I thought you'd all be so precise.

For anything other than fancy baking, your measurements do fine, as long as they're consistent and I remember that your cups are 20% bigger so I either convert to my cups or just up the other ingredients a bit.

btw, I don't eat during the day, not til the lemon chicken at midnight and all, so never worry about holding the buffet for moi. I also detest maple syrup.

Gee Report 2 Sep 2010 20:38

Nope...you need a floury spud

Examples of floury potatoes: Golden Wonder, British Queen, Maris Piper, Edzell Blue, Shetland Black

Fans

It need to be fairly dry and sun - they will grow in large pots or ideal 15lts paint tins - as they would dry out fairly quickly thru the plastic or tin -------

Plant in May/ June - put several 8/9 whole peanuts in each "pot" - plant in dirt . not compost - always keep on dry side - otherwise the peanuts will just rot

Just thought after all that typing you are talking to me

Are you Fans

Humming quietly......."Chestnuts roasting on an open fire." ...tra la.....

nah....too Christmassy for now.

I beg to differ JC .......maple syrup is yummy.

Gins......they grow different types of spuds in Canuckland - I had a feeling they would!

Russet Burbank, Shepody, Superior, Atlantic, Yukon Gold, Chieftain, Russet Norkotah, Kennebec, Ranger Russet and Norland.

My poor daughter who has AS and hates change and alterations to her routine is trying to cope with :

a) waiting for a new computer charger (so she can't use her puter) and is frustrated by this.

b) having her bedroom decorated by a neighbour (so her stuff is all over the place) which she detests.

c) just having her boiler turned off awaiting repair (so no hot water) and can't use her washing machine.

I must have had about 6 phone calls from her in the last 3 hours.

Arghhh.

We need a bloomin translator for these Canadians!

Russets are apples here

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 2 Sep 2010 21:15

Must have been on the previous page and I missed it, and I'm not going back -- one of us said russets? Yup, that's a baking potato. Is that a "floury" potato??

I grew up on corn syrup (the "golden" kind, not the clear kind I use for making peanut brittle, speaking of peanuts). Poor people food. We weren't terribly poor when I was a kid, just lower-middle, but my dad had got his taste for corn syrup during the poor periods when he was a kid, I guess. He put it on anything: pancakes, bread, ice cream. It's the stuff that's really bad for you, but I still want it on my pancakes! Maple really is revolting, and most other syrups just try to taste like maple. Although "golden" syrup is okay, I guess.

You don't need a translator for us, Ginny. We need a translator for you!
