Sequel to the demise about my thread CALLING ALL MINDREADERS which was deleted by GR last Friday.

I contacted GR following the sudden disappearance of my thread. I subsequently received their stock answer indicating that the thread had been removed because of a report that its content had contained breaches of their guidelines:

"We will not discuss individual postings but please be assured that our moderation team follow strict guidelines and individually examine each report that is made to them.

A posting or image is only removed from the site if it breaches the Guidelines of message board use and these are posted on every Message board page.

Here is a link to those guidelines for your reference:"


I replied that as far as I was aware the thread did not breach any of their guidelines or any of their terms or conditions. I also stated that as I had not received an email from GR advising me that my thread had been removed after GR had received a report, that I doubted that the thread had in fact been reported by another GR member. I further stated that I strongly suspected that the thread had been removed by an over zealous, over enthusiastic, or inexperienced moderator.


As a result of that I have today received this email from GR:

"Thank you for your email.

I am so very sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.

We will be re-educating our moderation team on what look ups are allowed on the board, so that in the future this does not occur.

I'm very sorry that we cannot reinstate this thread.

I have extended your upgrade for a further 2 months as a gesture of our goodwill.

I'm not quite sure of the exact meaning of the last sentence as I am just a standard member of GR. Probably just more B**LS**T.

As you are all experienced 'helpers', you may be interested to hear about the sorry tale regarding my Ask the Nutters thread which was hidden away on 'History'. It was a way of separating request for help from the Chronicles of Nutlodge on General.

The Ask the Nutters thread was whooshed at the end of last week. After a serious of standard replies, the latest states

Other posts are being removed with look up information.******

As you may have guessed, I am not best pleased about this.

So if any of your hard work on a thread disappears into the ether, you’ll know what De Management have done!!!!

An interesting statement. As far as I can see no such statement appears in either GR's Terms and conditions or indeed in their guidelines/rules:

Start a new thread Jonesey - your Mindreader post wasn't about look-ups anyway.

Both I and OH (a supportive but uninterested in FH person) have read the T&C and agree with Jonesey. Another email in the offing!

There are times when there seems to be neither rhyme nor reason to GR's actions, but the reply received by Jonesey is the most interesting reply I have ever seen from them.

I did wonder if you were whoosshed as someone - I forgot who - posted their email address - for anyone who wanted 1911 lookups
I saw it - and thought I would cut and paste - just in case - and when I went back to do just that - it was whooshed
BUT as many days have passed - I could be mistaken - am old ya know but I read on someones thread

After my look up thread was whoooooshed netty emailed GR to what difference 1841-1901 is from 1911 look ups this was her reply

Well.....if 1911 look ups do not breach T&C on Records, why do they (or any other records) breach T&C on other boards?

I've emailed them back asking them to quote the relevant section and paragraph.

Sorry to have diverted the community group-feel of this particular thread, but at least it has given us the opportunity to recognise that 'something is going on' lol
