There actually is a "modern" perfume that I think smells like an insecticide they spray around public buildings and stores here ... for cockroach infestations

It was very common about 10 years ago

and I hated going down escalators or to be in stores or buses with someone wearing it.

I never did identify which perfume it actually was, but ..............

I have always suspected Poison

My mother used to use 4711, or Lily of the Valley by Yardley

Daughter says my "smell" in her memory is Jontue, which I used to wear all the time

One whiff of that takes her right back to her childhood

Later, I wore Vanderbilt by Gloria Vanderbilt

BUT, I haven't worn perfume in any form for years .......... so many places over here are "scent-free" zones, plus son-i-l gets migraines from "smells"

I have a drawer full of perfume, eau de cologne, toilet water, talc, soap ....... mainly Vanderbilt, but also some Jontue.

I wonder if such things go "off" with time?????????????????

Hi dea
xx

that's cute!!

This morning, I had my morning cuddle with MJ ... and got him responding to "up' and "down". He was actually bending his knes and letting himself sit on "down", and standing up on "up"

daughter was quite delighted

I've only been saying it and making him do one or t'other for 10 days!

hmmmmmmmmm

one of the BC ferries between the mainland and several small islands had a "hard landing" yesterday

6 people injured ... 4 passengers and 2 crew, doesn't sound as if anyone was seriously hurt.

The crew couldn't slow the ship down to come into the dock, so it came in too fast, and "bang"

The ferry had docked normally about 20 minutes earlier at another island

Divers went down ...... and found ROPE entangeld in the propellers, especially on the port side, which was the one that needed to go into reverse for docking.

They think the rope came from crab traps ............ and that it had just been floating just under the surface of the water.

Ferry out of service for at least one more day

Dock out of use for at least one more day

which means limited ferry service to these islands ... they have to use a smaller "reserve" ship

What about this then....Fanny?

Patchouli Oil

I was in Sainsburys the other day and some young guy was wearing it

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 4 Aug 2010 20:21

actually

I usually take it easy with chocolates as well

Did you know that you can freeze choccies?

That local chocolatier that I mentioned several pages ago ...... gives instructions

Chocolates in a cellophane, plastic or paper bag

Wrap securely in tinfoil (aluminium foil)

Put into plastic freezer bag

Take out of freezer about 24 hours before you want to eat them, and thaw in fridge

or at room temperature if you want to eat them sooner.

They sometimes sell "seconds", ie mis-shapes etc, in large quantities. One time last year I bought a shoebox-sized box of OH's favourites! And that is how they tell you to handle them.

Gee

Gee Report 4 Aug 2010 20:23

Dea Report 4 Aug 2010 20:27

I cannot remember this Patchouli Oil she talks about so she must pre-date me ???

Sylv

Dad used to call sweets spice as did many other folk in our parts did

Mom having grown up in New York used to call them Candy.....numpty!

It wasn’t until recently I realised the original sweets were made from 'spices'....cloves etc...

Gee

Gee Report 4 Aug 2010 20:29

Patchouli Oil

It was a hippy thing and both my older sisters used to wear it in the 70's

Stinks a bit like Tweed....old clothes in a charity shop

Dea

Dea Report 4 Aug 2010 20:31

OOhh Gins, then I won't like it !!

Have to go to bed now but call me a numpty first - I haven't been called that for a while and I miss it !!

OOOhh - thats nice Ginns

I feel all warm and loved now!

Palma violets ...........yuuuuuck !!

However,

Yardleys April Violets posted by Cynthia I remember well - I always bought them for my Gran - On reflection, I don't know whether she pretended to like them or whether she just tipped them into her 'undies drawer' to 'get rid' !! ?????

She has gone now so I will never know !!

Nite nite all,
